I do not think that those artillery pieces were actually ever made (even the video of the arty piece firing is fake). That said, I do know from my dad's stories and from The Stars and Stripes that there were manually planted nukes that would be used in case of a ground invasion.
They were real. All sorts of weird nukes were made, including land mines with chickens in them to keep the electronics warm and usable.

Personally I am completely blackpilled thanks to this. Russias Agression and America's feckless response means everyone, from the Saudis to the Lithuanians are going to start seriously considering getting nukes. Its even likely hell itself will freeze and Sweden develops nuclear weapons. Putin just could not help but to threaten them along with everyone else.
They probably should though, and not because of Russia. Russia just invaded a country over a border dispute that is arguably de jure part of Russia anyway since it was part of the Russian empire for hundreds of years. The US now thinks its authority extends to such a degree that it can punish India for staying entirely neutral as though they were some kind of vassal state. If you were the leader of a neutral nation, which of the two honestly sounds like a bigger threat?

i could see russia tolerating nuclear armed baltic states if they leave nato (or nato disintegrates)

india, israel, pakistan said "fuck the npt lmao" and nothing happens to them

If they leave NATO then you can say goodbye to the Baltics.

You will then start to see "People's republics" in the Baltics.

Remember, Peter the great has put in every Russian ruler's mind the ambition of always seeking to be the dominant Baltic power.

Oh, they definitely will now. Putin threatening to use nukes basically made people realized that they themselves needed nukes. We are going to have lots of serious Intelligence shenanigans regarding nukes from now on
Wonder how that'll play out, will the glowies fund the green parties in the western countries as they're anti-nuclear or will Europe finally get rid of those retards.

if you're a neutral nation that borders russia, has a russian minority population (thanks to stalins population transfers) and used to be a subject of russia in the past, russia 100%
that includes finland, estonia, lithuania, latvia, poland at the very least, potentially romania, slovakia and hungary as well, also the caucasus republics (armenia azerbaijan georgia)

Rocket artillery. The infamous SRBM.
I don't know if I'm just splitting hairs here but I think when most people mean artillery they do not think of missiles.

I understand, I just was thinking of stuff like the Davey Crockett and what not that were cool experiments but never actually went into serious consideration.

I think a lot of people here do not realize that Russia can also be a country that wants to expand its size and that a lot of countries would really actually be a part of NATO than to either be Russia or some form of Russian puppet.

All of this general nuclear weapons talk reminds me of Metal Gear Solid 1 and Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker.

Where there was a heavy discussion of nukes compared to the other MGS games in general.

Metal Gear Solid is more relevant than ever yet we will never get Chapter 51.

Also will Russia give us some sort of Call of Duty equivalent game out of this?

MGS needs remakes a la Demon Souls, Shadow of the Colossus and not be relegated to pachinkos and a zombie game.

What?
Yeah. And frankly, the glowies have been helping to fund anti-nuclear positions in Europe for decades.
Wait what do you mean by glowies?

Just like the Chi-Coms said many years ago, the US is a paper tiger.

Honestly (imo) from everything I have seen from Russia/Soviets in the last 3 decades I am quite sure that so are they. I just think the US is too pussy (read: smart) to actually try and start a war with Russia or China. I could be wrong though.

I saw the Atomic Cannon in person at Aberdeen Proving Ground, it was right next to "Leopold", the German railway cannon better known as "Anzio Annie".

Well, let's assume Russia is willing to press such spurious land claims. Is that really more of an unjustified encroachment into those nations' sovereignty than what the US, NATO, and EU do? Let's say one of the Western European nations finally got done being flooded with niggers and decided to ditch globohomo. You know for an absolute fact that they'd be regime changed. Likewise, a vassal state of Russia obviously has more sovereignty than a vassal state of the Unholy Homo Empire (EU) given how Chechens are free to shout Allah Akbar and fuck their sisters and have to be asked to join into Russian wars.

Except it wouldn't be smart to attack either. Just because the US would win doesn't mean it'll win effortlessly. The US would end up in the same position Russia is in now.

In short, Nuclear War.

The invention of fission weapons put a real spin on the balance of power issue. Especially since now the cat is out of the bag anyone can build a nuclear bomb. Lithuania, Ukraine and Sweden can become nuclear armed nations within months of the directive being given. Germany too, before they abandoned their reactors. So 2 years for them now.

Greece, Turkey, Romania, and Poland can also become nuclear powers within a year or two, given sufficient motivation. Keep in mind South Africa was nuclear capable for a few years before it got sanctioned to death.

And this is why the US cares a great deal, because nukes have changed the cost benefit analysis, and game theory is very clear. The more players their are, the greater the likelihood for Armageddon. The US, HAS to guarantee the stability of Europe at this point. The alternative is fucking Lithuania developing nukes and aiming them at Moscow and Kaliningrad.

This more then anything else I think is why official Washington is furious and scared. They thought Putin understood this. Since it is clear he does not, the question is now what game he is playing and what the rules are.
I'm still going with the political class did all their dirty shit over in Ukraine and left such a mess that there's no way to clean it up now. As in just burning the evidence and killing some people isn't going to clean it up. And they don't want Putin to air their dirty laundry to the world if he takes over Ukraine.

Also the WEF nations need another boogyman / power grab after Covid fizzled out.

Its also probably a lot of what you said too.

I don't know if I'm just splitting hairs here but I think when most people mean artillery they do not think of missiles.
W-series nuclear shells, including the dreaded neutron ones, were fielded in Western Germany. A few places were pretty famous for being home of the atomic loaded units.

Capable of being fired from an 8" artillery gun. There were a few 155mm ones.
I understand, I just was thinking of stuff like the Davey Crockett and what not that were cool experiments but never actually went into serious consideration.
Davy Crockett went into production and was fielded in Western Germany.

The tactical nuclear battlefield was a serious business, as it was considered one of the only ways to break up the Soviet tank rush, as the capabilities of the T-series tanks had been vastly overestimated and the Abrams vastly underestimated, along with just how effective the APDSFSDU round was for the 120mm gun.

There were also a lot of binary chemical weapons, lewisite and VX and the like. From 60mm mortar shells all the way up to the big guns.
