I understand where you're coming from, but just because you're gay doesn't mean you're a degenerate. But yeah I do understand the more extreme aspects of it are what people tend to latch onto.

Zelensky wants all of the perks of being in NATO, but none of the obligations or responsibilities. It's not so much a semantic game as, "Yes, I want the US and NATo to go to war to save me, no I don't want all the other stuff that goes with being in NATO." Not a bad deal if he can pull it off, but he hasn't been able to do that so far. (I also think the Neoconservatives like it this way too.)

Now does anyone seriously believe that Russia is planning on using chemical or even biological weapons in Ukraine?
What benefit would they accrue? These types of weapons provide near zero tactical gain, if used against civilian targets it's zero divided by zero, while exposing the Russians to massive strategic risk up to and including NATO intervention. The last thing the Russians would do is use WMDs in a war they are clearly winning.

The Ukrainian government is, of course, highly motivated to drag the west into their war, but what does the US get out of this?

The CCP have allied with the Russians. A whole bunch of other non western nations are staying neutral and are determinedly not joining the sanctions pile on. This is a problem if the goal is to completely isolate the Putin regime and collapse the Russian economy.
The Saudis, and likely other major oil producers, are about to start accepting payment in Yuan. Remember the burgers invaded Iraq because Saddam had declared his intention to stop pricing Iraqi oil in dollars, Anyone threatening the petrodollar can expect an overwhelmingly violent response from the Burgerstanis.
The real rate of inflation in the US is close to 30% annualised. This is not sustainable and a hard correction is in the works. The only way to bring back price stability is to ramp up interest rates and collapse demand, which means mass unemployment and an economic depression. This isn't a theoretical option for the US government it's an absolute necessity. How can they do this without triggering massive social unrest? By putting their society and economy on a war footing which will also allow them to clamp down hard against domestic dissidents, something which the burger elites have been itching to do anyway, war or no war.
We have a coalescence of interests that supports a Russian war no matter the risks. The burgers would probably lose a conventional war against Russia and they sure as shit have no ability to invade Russia, so likely they believe if they confine themselves only to the Ukrainian theater the Russians will not escalate to a nuclear response when their forces come under attack. The goal isn't to liberate the Ukraine, let alone overthrow Putin, the goal is to have a war for the sake of having a war.
