Ok ok ok this update is a little weird and confusing and even me being really smart cannot figure this one out.

So a today someone claimed a Reddit-tier larperator who claims to be SF (with no proofs) was killed in Ukraine by Russians. The proof used was a a picture of a damaged patch(Fig. 1) that the guy has been seen wearing (it's a popular patch among larpers, after it was used by SAS). Well it seems that the guy is still alive (but has been locked out of his Instagram account?) and the person who posted the picture of the torn up patch linked to their merch store which shows pictures of them with the same patch, in the US(Fig. 2).

Its total nonsense, conquest is allowed according to the UN, the point of the organization is to keep nations dancing within a narrow box to hedge against a repeat of the League of Nation's failures. The founders of the UN clearly understood that borders cannot and should not remain fixed for eternity and allowing the current roster of apparatchiks to say otherwise is foolish. This is why the Security Council can veto stuff unilaterally, the founders of the UN realized that the big dogs needed to get down and dirty at times to handle business.

Well this is certainly a new twist on war profiteering. If I'm reading that right, it sounds like they're trying to boost patch sales.

that's what the rules say on paper yes
but in reality rules are only worth as much as the one who is willing and able to enforce them
and since the UN itself can't enforce anything against the will of the great powers that make up the security council, these rules simply don't apply to those great powers, and to other countries they apply only if the great powers are united in their opposition to the country in question. russia for example took crimea in direct violation of the UN rules, but because russia is a great power the UN can't do jack shit about it. likewise, israels shenanigans on the west bank are probably a violation of UN rules too, but since america backs them, the UN is toothless against it.

Gonna quibble slightly. Israel's shenanigans in the west Bank are legal because Jordan ceded the territory to Israel in a treaty that was registered with the UN. As far as the UN is concerned the west Bank is sovereign Israeli territory

You are also correct though, in that might makes right. To a point. The issue Russia has is that they've not closed the deal which means time has been provided for the other great powers to isolate them.

I said it yesterday, but I'll say it again. This is always how they were. In the 90s with Clinton as president, democrats were VERY warm to the idea of war with Iraq. In many cases the very same ones who opposed it a few years later. Hell, just look at how enthusiastic they were about the Yugoslav adventures, or Haiti.

Seems like it wasn't as big of a disaster as Ukraine made it out to be, or as total a success as Russia made it out to be. I gotta be honest this whole "you only care now because theyre not brown!" completely misses the mark. Its not even in the general direction of the mark. The reason people care isnt because Ukranians are white and everyone is racist. The reason mouthbreathing normies care about Ukraine and not Palestine is because the media puts it in front of them. People arent ignoring Yemen because they hate brown people. In order to ignore Yemen, you have to first be told about Yemen, which is something that will literally never happen in US media, because the media is in bed with the government and is carrying water for Saudi Arabia and Israel.

The problem here is not racism. The problem is that most people dont realize that their trusted source of information is a glorified propaganda outlet. They dont realize that everyone who talks about Palestine and Yemen in any incisive way has been banned from youtube and twitter specifically to slow the spread of awareness about these issues. They dont seek out alternative media, and so they dont know what is happening. And then when , for cynical reasons, the American media actually decides to talk about a conflict, most viewers have absolutely no idea how to contextualize it because the timeslot where the news should have been talking about these things was dedicated to a squirrel riding waterskis.

Putin isn't a saint, but the biggest examples of him supposedly being a cruel conqueror are him taking territory that's either asking for him to help them or has already seceded and joined Russia. Those nations have a right to defend their sovereignty, yes, but when people are coming out and waving your nation's flag and giving your troops gifts as they invade, you really can't say it's a completely cut and dry issue. This happened in Chechnya, South Ossetia, Crimea, and Donbass. It's a sentiment that's been around since the USSR fell. Not everyone, especially in states besides Russia, wanted to be split off into their own groups, and a lot of people in a lot of those countries wanted to join back up with Russia itself. Not all of them want to sure, but enough that every place had its own separation movement, or in Chechnya's case, people begging Russia to drive out what was becoming an openly terroristic Islamic dictatorship.
