There's no such thing as a peaceful overthrow of the government first of all and in this case, there were snipers shooting at the cops and armed members of the Right Sector taking over buildings and even when European officials came in and tried to negotiate some peace, the Right Sector refused to lay down their arms until Yanukovych resigned. They didn't leave the government buildings, they in fact refused and to pretend like they weren't trying to kill Yanukovych is just lieing. That was the goal. Oh and also these "peaceful protestors" showed up in Odessa a few months later where they chased anti-Maidan protestors into a building which they then set on fire and burned people alive.

This whole thing since before 2014 has been caused by the State Department fucking around because they hate Russia and ultimately want a color revolution there to overthrow Putin. Not quite. Maiden generally happened within norms of what the world is willing to accept. It was also massive on and knew how to play the media game. Donbass actually started out doing that ok.

Donbass was a small group of actual separatists with a decent sized part of the population there who was teed off. I don't debate that. There were protests that were more likely than not genuine, even if there is evidence of Russia support even going back then. But the early protests were mainly theater, not particularly violent, and the seized buildings were sometimes returned later in the day. Think the more peaceful part of Jan 6, but it keeps happening and you have a violent ass fringe complicate things. The main issue that they had at the time other than Yanukovich was Ukraine's bonehead vote to ban Russian as a language, that vote didn't stick, but it deffo hurt relations. This went on for a while, with Ukraine arresting some of the most violent protestors, and as they went they got replaced by Russian thugs, or at least Russian paid thugs.

Things like this had happened before, and had been dealt with amicably.

But unlike what Seabiscuts keeps claiming there was absolutely funding and arming by Russia with it being most visible in April and later when shit got real. A couple of separatist groups said fuck it and took over everything, Kharkiz, Russia provided equipment and massed 40,000 troops on the border. Shit kept escalating, way too many people, on both sides fucking died. And again, this follows Putin's modus operandi. Putin took advantage of ethnic tensions to justify his invasion. Not giving a flying fuck who gets hurt in the process.

I never claimed the Russians didn't offer funding, they obviously did, my point was there was a grassroots movement to become more aligned with Russia and this idea that Putin took advantaged. Putin didn't want Crimea following into NATO hands because it's home to the Black Sea Fleet. None of this would have happened if NATO and America would have kept their huge noses out of the region which is not remotely strategically important to them other then to fuck with the Russians which is only in the interest of the people who run the country and not the actual American people.

Putin has essentially ordered the Russian Army to go full Grozny on ethnically Russian cities. The greatest loss of Russian lives since the second world War is occurring on Putins watch. More Russian Soldiers have died in the past 2 weeks then the first year of the Afghan War.

But I think the most unforgivable sin is more Russian people have been killed in the past month, by the Russian Army, since the Nazi invasion. Putin has put the Russian military into that same dubious pantheon. Just as the Third Reich once reduced Kharkiv, now the Russian Federation does the same.
