There's no such thing as a peaceful overthrow of the government first of all and in this case, there were snipers shooting at the cops and armed members of the Right Sector taking over buildings and even when European officials came in and tried to negotiate some peace, the Right Sector refused to lay down their arms until Yanukovych resigned. They didn't leave the government buildings, they in fact refused and to pretend like they weren't trying to kill Yanukovych is just lieing. That was the goal. Oh and also these "peaceful protestors" showed up in Odessa a few months later where they chased anti-Maidan protestors into a building which they then set on fire and burned people alive.

I think there's just a lot of cope, that some think that thinking this won't end in a total Russian victory and will likely end in either a compromised peace treaty or an extremely costly Russian total victory is saying "Ukraine is winning so hard they will be in Moscow soon!".

If Russia decides to keep beating it's head against the wall and send more and more of it's active troops or even decides to call for mobilization, of course they will win. The question is will Russia do that or not, they might, they might not.

Marioples defenders cannot surrender because if they did Federation soldiers will kill them. So they fight like men with nothing to lose.
