People see this behavior outside tech companies but need to know it's worse in tech companies. There is no anonymity in these companies so when people push this type of shit you can't push back without your job threatened.

Although to be honest you could also argue that people should not be using package managers for their programming languages like NPM ,pip, cargo which are all of equal danger when it comes to this. These are all dependencies that no one checks, unlike package management in projects like debian/fedora etc.

Devs are lazy and rely on automation to "check" packages. Try getting a dev to do anything but write code and send it to devops.

That's why I don't trust these package repositories or software that pulls in 50.000 of them. It's basically closed source and a black box at this point. There's literally no realistic way to tell what it does, especially when updates are rolling. If you are a linux, learn about sandboxing and namespaces, at the very least.
