I doubt Ukraine was still using it actively 21 days into this war, but if Russia can start using it and hold the territory, they have just secured quite a win. Though it won't be as simple as turning the facility off and on again.

The war is being fought with refurbished cold war gear by both sides. It is about how quickly depots can repair light damage and put stored reserve equipment back into service to replace losses. They don't have the time to build from scratch or do complete overhauls to new standards.

The fate of a steel plant is irrelevant.

Today I saw a bus in my backwater part of England with a blue and yellow heart stuck to the front. Genuinely, what the fuck? The BLM stuff was fake and gay, but at least there was the tenuous justification that Britain does have some race issues to work on. What the fuck is a sticker on a bus in the North of England going to do to help Ukraine? It's all so tiresome.

Yes, if anything the immediate aftermath of the Civil War was worse for the South due to Lincoln's assassination as soon as they got rid of Johnson. It was basically reversed later (which is why the South ended up full of Confederate monuments), but for a while the South was ruled by the carpet-baggers. Lincoln was really the only politician with the prestige to prevent that.
