I'm probably late as shit on this, but has there ever been actual, verified, reasoning for the letters on Russian vehicles?
This was the closest thing I found to a straight answer but I'm not curious enough to do any real digging:

Sorry for the double post, but I'm sure basically everyone has seen this and isn't going to revisit to check for an edit.

How relevant is it if our street shitting friends are correct?
Can anyone privy to Russian military workings tell us how competent, say, the "Eastern Military District" is vs those stationed in Belarus or Crimea?
As far as fact checking goes: is there a greater number of "X" marked vehicles where there are Chechens?

The rejoinder to people not caring about Russian People suffering from western sanctions is Russian People not caring about Ukrainian people suffering from Russian military aggression. To use the often thrown around phrase here, this is war. And the western countries REALLY want Russia to lose this war, or at least pay such an enormous price some other would be aggressor (China v. Taiwan) will think really hard about doing something similar. While western politicians say the sanctions are not aimed at hurting ordinary Russian, that is not true at all. The sanction are aimed deliberately at hurting the Russian People. The US and Europe can't bomb Russian cities over this and really make the point land in their living rooms with a B52, but they can come pretty close with removing them from the global economy.
That is sort of the issue though. There is no way to separate the government of the Russians from the Russian people. The ultimate goal here is to bankrupt the state so that it cannot continue the war or at least struggle to continue it. With the way they run industry, manage wealth, and generate revenue that is impossible to do without breaking the paychecks of the average Russian since it is on their backs that all of this is created.

Deputy Commander of the Russian Black Sea fleet was somehow killed in battle.

Edit: Might have jumped the gun, "dying defending the motherland" could also mean that the officer died in an accident while deployed
He's the equivalent of a US Navy Captain (O-6). Black Sea Fleet is 25,000 people, 45 warships. Commander apparently a full admiral, likely US equivalent O-10. Deputy commander would be another O-10 or probably an O-9.

Also tells NATO Russian Bears and Blackjacks cannot handle NATO air defenses. If these bombers are flying over Russia to launch cruise missiles instead of dropping heavy bombloads on Ukraine due to present Uke air defenses, a major signal has been sent.
Part of it seems to be doctrine, it seems that Russia isn't running many dedicated SEAD operations or at least didn't run them at the start of the war where they would have the greatest success rate. Since NATO doctrine heavily leans into not only air superiority, but air supremacy. they run SEAD operations for days if not weeks before focusing more on CAS and bombing operations.

I somehow doubt Putin is listening to much to Turkey who make efforts to appear neutral but supplied a very useful drone system to the Ukrainians, which they didn't have to. The Romans talked of 'Punic faith' and maybe Russia might see 'Turkish faith' in the present situation.
They can fix any disagreements at dinner with turkey as the main course. Whether I'm talking about a country or a dish, I'll leave it to your imagination.

That's hardly a surprise though. Nobody has expected a Bear to be survivable against air defenses since Nixon was in office, and they have less than 20 blackjacks.

But it doesnt matters because you have a 5G antenna up your ass (metaphorically) so you can get memes and games and videos and porn and other shit thats destroying your brain like meth would so you're too fucking distracted to notice how everything its collapsing around you, and when you do notice what you do? you go back at being numbed down by your phone
What happens when you can't get a phone because it costs ten times your monthly salary, there are no chips to make one, and there's no electricity so you can't use it anyway? What happens when you can't afford your burgfat foot because meat and bread have quintupled?

You can become Vladimir Putin. No computers or vidya, plenty of spare time to invade countries arbitrarily.

It's hipocrasy that's the problem. When you "don't fight the people, but fight the government," you are either inefficient and benevolent, or brutal and honest. The same is true for "peacekeeping missions." You cannot be a humanitarian, a democracy-freedom-loving hippie while having your arms covered in blood and the cities of your opponent in ruins. It crates dissonance in the minds of the populace and is a probable reason why so many people are so fucked up.

If hypocrisy was a war crime every nation would be at Nuremberg right now.

honestly, given the abysmal state of russian logistics, I'd give it a 50/50 chance that it's either this or that they fucked up the fuel for their bombers so that they were too low on it to even be able to fly out closer to their targets. or some other clowny reason like that, since it seems pretty obvious that whoever handles their logistics are grade-A jokers.
The major issue with Russian logistics is the overreliance on trains, if they can't gain control of the tracks in a region, or if the tracks they do control are destroyed by partisans, they are fucked. If Ukraine blows up a convoy and it results in that road is blocked, they need to bring a vehicle to clear the road because any vehicle that goes offroad sinks in the swamp known as Ukraine in the Spring and Fall.

It's kind of hilarious because if they decided to delay the invasion until late May or early June, they wouldn't have half of the logistics issues they currently do because their vehicles could actually go off road.

That infographic spread around in the early days is incorrect. There is no "A" or "X". [Z] doesn't mean Crimea. "V" isn't marines. "O" doesn't mean Belorussian based. It's total bullshit. This video straightens it all out.
There is more to it. The letter corresponds to army groups and attached units. But that it is region-based is the gist.

Since the war is going so slowly, let me introduce you to one of the silliest things the Russians are claiming to try to field. Meet SOTNIK. a combat suit Russia claims can stop a .50 BMG, how it's going to stop one without turning the wearers insides into liquid mush the world will never know.
