Reminds me of the book "The Forgotten Soldier". By a French-German guy who fought in the eastern front for Germany in WW2. Highly recommend it. He recounted that if they caught people looting, they'd shoot them. Anyways, two people (I think they where soviet troops) where looting valuables from the rubble. There was a guy that tied them down to a fence and was obviously traumatized. He was a former gulag POW who was liberated. He went on about how a Russian prison guard put a bullet between his teeth , kept acting like he was going to hit it with a hammer while the POW was restrained. The author mentioned he looked deranged. The former POW then popped a grenade and put it in their pocket. Needless to say, I think I'd rather be publicly spanked bound to a pole to.

I dunno about that. They have resources and heavy industry. But stuff like electronics both hardware and software are imports. Same with durable consumer goods like white goods and automobiles. They had most of their auto industry shut down because it relies on euro import parts for powertrain.

Autarky would mean having to build entire industries from scratch likely requiring tooling and technology that they also have to make from scratch. It's not as simple as just flipping from making tractors to cars. Then you have to wonder where all the money to fund these capital investments comes from when everyone is broke because their main industry oil & gas got shit on in the world market.

I don't know why you think the Ukries would make such bold demands because pretty much Ukraine doesn't have the capabilities to either take Crimea or Donbass back.

It's the other way around, the Ukries need to be concerned that there is a significant possibility of encirclement in Donbass by Separatist and Russian forces and many cities are also encircled or are about to be encircled.
