How many lives are worth sending a message? How much damage are you willing to let you country take to say "fuck off" for a few extra months?

If there is an offer that Zelenskiy can take to end the war that ends with the Donbas, Crimea, and maybe Kherson and Zaporizhia going to Russia along with neutrality for Ukraine, then I think more suffering will be had fighting than accepting a peace.

The "message" sent by fighting on against the odds can be quite valuable, depending on the disposition of your enemies. The Confederates got a relatively conciliatory treatment, and so did the Chechens, because everyone knew that it was a hard fight that they never wanted to have again. The Nepalese even got to be the British Empire's attack dogs after the conquest for the fight they put up. But it can also go the other way, with the Germans getting their entire civilisation dismantled using the latest cultural technologies (ironically developed by German Jews in Frankfurt) because they proved themselves to be too dangerous. But even in the German case their economy was rebuilt with American help, once the plan of that bitter Jew Morgenthau got supplanted by Southern good ol'boy Marshall.

IMO the question hinges on the legitimacy of the regime, whether it is actually Ukrainians fighting for their autonomy or just rootless cosmopolitans cynically sacrificing the people within their assigned economic zone to preserve the DNC's slush fund.

The US: Any geopolitical clout gained from bragging that we successfully saved Ukraine with Javelins will be offset by economic chaos. US financial dominance will continue fading away as we hurdle towards the return to the natural, multipolar state of affairs in the world. The US is a push. While there are the issues you mentioned it realigns the EU towards our camp both militarily and economically. There was an increasingly popular sentiment over there, especially post-Brexit, that they should break off and go their own way. NATO was falling in relevancy. They were openly looking to cut ties to US goods and services. That all changed pretty much overnight. The heel-turn EU leadership has done, particularly Germany, is astonishing.

I doubt Ukraine was still using it actively 21 days into this war, but if Russia can start using it and hold the territory, they have just secured quite a win. Though it won't be as simple as turning the facility off and on again.

I agree with this up to a point, but they're immediately starting the attempts of involving the west in another war they shouldn't be a part of, right after multiple years of locking people indoors, trying to force massive behavioral changes on the populaces of multiple separate countries.
