To be honest by attacking and oppressing Ukrainians Putin just makes them have a stronger self identify it’s a pretty common reaction.
We already saw this happen in 2014, desire to join NATO jumped from 20% in 2014 to like 70-80% before the invasion.

It's kinda funny how all the people who claim that the US makes enemies for years after an invasion do not apply that same logic here.

It's like, nah, just bend over and take Papa Putin's prick up the pooper.

Didn't the US help Yeltsin rigged the 1996 election? I remember there was a time magazine article bragging about that when that happend
Yes. The communists were likely to win the 96 election so the IMF, Oligarchs, and US pumped Yeltsins campaign with millions of dollars violating Russian campaign finance laws. The Clinton Administration even sent over some of their electoral campaign people to help Yeltsins PR. Oligarchs did their thing as well to get him the votes needed.

If people want to understand how Putin came to power in the first place they need to understand the gangster capitalist hellhole that was the very late USSR and Yeltsin Russia.

Also interesting note, the Clinton Administration approved of Putin as Yeltsin's successor when Yeltsin privately talked with them.

So that’s why killery was so assmad about russia she hates bitches who destroy her evil plans.

Pretty much why all elites hate Putin. He didn't want Russia being America's bitch and forced the oligarchs to play by his rules. Those who refused he exiled or arrested and had their assets siezed.

He is a corrupt fucker but he is far from an insane warmongering retard. Not just anyone goes from ex-KGB to the PM then President of Russia in a matter of about a decade.

If you think about it, the Yeltsin Era was probably the best chance the US would ever have had to influence post Soviet Russia in a positive direction, but Wall Street decided the Shock Doctrine would be more fun. Well, at least a lot of rich Wall Street guys got even richer, so that's one consolation.
Another reason is how NATO bombing of Serbs horrified the Russian population and even political elites as they suggested using their influence on Serbia to come to ceasefire, and after Kosovo was recognized as a sovereign country, as some would say Pandora's box had been opened, there were no rules, as Russian politicians like to remind everyone when discussing Crimea.

What I've kind of thought would be best for Russia, if not necessarily the west, would be to have a leader like Singapore got at independence. Authoritarian, but heavily anti corruption.
It would be impossible as Singapore is just one city and Russia is the largest country on earth. It is her blessing and her curse. It's just impossible to look after every city and transaction to weed out all the corruption. So if you can't achieve honestly, you go for loyalty. Even in the 18th century, Catherine II said: "I am being robbed [in Russia] in the same way as others, but this is a good sign and shows that there is something to steal." There is just no solution, I'm afraid.

Dunno, attacking Ukraine looks pretty insane, warmongering and retarted to me. I still fail to understand what he undid the last 2 decades of economic development and made Russia the world's pariah for at least the next two generations for.

A harebrained bid to uncouple Russia from the world's economy and build a better Juche doesn't cut it. And sounds retarded and insane.

Honestly though he did have every reason to think it wouldn't go THIS far. The west has gone "reeeee" and thrown a few sanctions on him in the past, but never anything to this level. But at the end of the day, we'll never really know what really is going on in his head.

They decided to do a bit of off-roading on the path to Duginism.

Lee Kuan Yew is so based, it should have been a crime for any politicians not to read about him

Honestly, I'm surprised Russia would have used the Hypersonic Missiles already. Using one of their secret weapon doesn't look like they're very confident of a quick victory. Now countries are going to be pushing for the development of their countermeasure even more

Please get this Reddit bullshit out of here. Dugin is a certified schizophrenic. Everybody keeps talking about MUH FOUNDATIONS OF GEOPOLITICS but neglects to mension his other book where he claims the world is ruled by immortal vampires who use numerology.
Sounds based much better then reality in which it’s multinational corpoauthoritarians who live as word nobility.

Putin made a bet in which win and loss are everything. But while ruthless, he is not stupid, and some would say even patriotic. It's interesting to see support from Syria, Venezuela, and African countries for Russia after a billion dollars of debt from the oil trade that Russia has just "forgotten", so it seems preparations were made for a big move. Will US hegemony be shaken by Putin? Or will his legacy be marked as just another traitor and plutocrat? Only time will tell. But one thing is certain: it will be interesting.

This is a big one. Schlumberger is all over, where there's oil being produced. Lived in the West Texas Permian Basin oil patch for years, used to see their trucks all the time.

Anything much new? Saw where another Russian general and another Russian colonel got waxed. For an operation of this size, and the relatively short duration so far, the number of dead generals and colonels is rather high, much higher than it would be for the US military. Don't remember of any US generals killed during Desert Storm or Iraq. Remember one US general killed in Afghanistan due to a rogue Afghan guard. May have been a couple of colonels die of non-combat-related causes, again off the top of my head. Again, these high-ranking officers are getting killed because the Russian military simply cannot or will not rely on the lower-ranking officers to get the job done, and Russia has little in the way of a professional noncommissioned officer (NCO) corps.

The NCO corps is the backbone of any good military, certainly is in the US military, from personal experience. For example, in the US military crew chiefs for aircraft (fighters, bombers, helicopters, transports, etc.) are always NCOs. These men and women take care of the planes, make repairs, get them fueled/serviced, etc. While NCO crew chiefs work under the oversight of a commissioned maintenance officer, that officer doesn't turn a wrench. The Russians use officers as crew chiefs because they don't have or don't trust the NCOs to do the job. Those guys turn wrenches, directly supervise troops also turning wrenches. The Russians use officers for many jobs performed in the US military by NCOs.

It makes sense to me to test it in an actual war. While they probably didn't need them right now, they may have an actual need for them soon enough.
