Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

still you'd think they'd at least ask their close friends/colleagues working on the show, who just so happened to more in the know regarding comics for a little info especially when you remember she (Lauren) and Craig would later be married (unless they already were at the time idk) I guess Mrs. Faust's ego has always spoken for her not just after becoming a big shot.
there was a payoff to this joke when it's revealed Femme Fatale herself knows nothing about feminism or powerful women and girls had to explain her who Susan B. Anthony was. The episode was anti straw feminism and that was the point, very relevant today. Faust actually had to apologized for making the feminists look bad. Ironically, she's now a straw feminist herself

Anyone remember the two x-men shows made after the 90s one X-men evolution and Wolverine and the X-men? (apologies if the videos aren't working right something is going on with vidoe links right now)

They ran between 2000 and 2006 so around the same time as the original trilogy (you can see some influences those movies had on the x-men franchise for years) They look...ok I vaguely remember seeing ads for Wolverine and the X-men on nicktoons but i think that was after it was already in syndication, and have even less memories of Evolution.

Both look better than that supposed "reboot" of X-men 97 that's coming out soon.

I watched Teenage Euthanasia, I liked it, but it has one major flaw, one really major flaw.

It's way too fucking long. It doesn't need to be 22 minutes. If it were just 11 minutes and paced better it would be great.

I remember catching these back when I was still into Marvel cartoons. X-Men Evolution kind of leaned to hard into the high school AU idea but got better once they dropped that angle. This would also be the series that introduced X-23 to the franchise, not unlike what happened with Harley Quinn.
Wolverine and the X-Men got off to a really rough start (too much focus on Wolverine, everyone else looking lamer in comparison) and was smothered in the cradle before it could have improved.
Both had their pros and cons and both make the decision to graverob the 90s cartoon even more frustrating.

Evolution was decent, never watched the Wolverine show.

Shaggy: Like Hi boss!

Customs Officer: You...you ate all the contraband!

Shaggy: Like untrue boss! We didn't eat it all! There's still a couple of Gorgonzolas left help yourself!

Customs Officer: YOU'RE A COUPLE OF GORGONZOLAS! YOU'RE FIRED!

Fun fact: Mark Hamill was doing so many voices for scooby doo on zombie island because he was trying to break into voice acting at the time. Beyond playing joker for batman TAS later the DCAU.

Skydance Animation has landed another major talent.

Rich Moore, director of “Zootopia,” “Wreck-It Ralph” and “Ralph Breaks the Internet,” is joining the team in an exclusive, multi-year overall deal. Under the new pact, Moore will create, develop and produce original animated features for the studio.

After leaving Disney in 2019, Moore did a brief stint at Sony Pictures Animation. The only feature he helped with, last year’s “Vivo,” was released directly to Netflix.
Skydance Animation is shaping up to be the next Pixar (old Pixar, not Nu-Pixar) especially since most of the old veterans of Pixar are working there now.

A Town Called Panic appreciation post; altho the english clips found on youtube are so shit quality *sigh*

The movie was kino too.
I had the chance to see it at theatre when the movie came out back in 2009 ! The memories...
There's also a serie of short but I have no ideas if they are available with English subs sadly.

Speaking of shorts, they released a feature films composed of three new shorts ! https://youtu.be/ltseXzaOpcE I still didn't had the chance nor the time to see it so I will probably grab it when it will be released on dvd in the future.

Really glad to see people all around the world who loves the movie, it such a "belgian" thing (with the characters accents and the whole humour) but when something is good, it can transcend frontiers.

Best Character Animation in a Video Game: Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart
Thank god it got an award. The game was totally snubbed by the Game Awards for a titles that is super well made. It deserved to win in an animation department.

Apparently it’s not very good, it’s such a shame because from the trailers it was such a bizarre premise I thought thud pulloff some really amazing stuff with it but no, Mucz this ain’t. The film is funny and has very high quality animation and cute characters but that’s about it. A way more slight offering from the studio.

Also fucking kudos to him pointing out all the bitching about the character designs on Twitter, remember people!! this whole ‘Calarts’ style all cartoon nerds bitch about nowadays is a misleading non-term popularised by the king hack motherfucking John K himself. It was made simply out of spite because he was jealous at the stuff that CN we’re putting out these days getting more success than he ever had and wanted to coin a revenge phrase to get back at those he didn’t like. Don’t be sheep to friggin John K internet, all this misinformation about current western animation terms and speculations needs to stop.
I stopped listening to Schafrillas a while ago. The dude is just a Dreamworks fanboy that makes overly long vides.

I don't necessarily care where the term 'Cal Arts' came from. It is still an overdone style that seems to make up the majority of CN and Disney animation, stripping the companies of the diversities they used to have.

I vaguely remember being subbed to him for a bit, but he quickly became one of those critics who feels the need to nitpick in order to make the video seem more professional. Not really animation related, but if I wanted a critic who's more into the critical analysis side of things I'd go with UrickSaladBar.

The term 'calarts style' was coined by Ren and Stimpy creator John K. He mostly used it to describe animated films that were too similar to Disney works(e.g Iron Giant for example). Ironic how some of the best talent in the heyday came from that college, now we're stuck with tumblr rejects since that phrase somehow got reinvented from picking on Disney imitators to sketchbook design rejects.

It might have been calarts lowering the bar for entry in order to appease said tumblr rejects who wouldn't stop crying when they couldn't get into the school because their idea of a "portfolio" was their gallery on art sites like tumblr, DeviantArt ect. That's my only explanation as to how so many people who clearly have no talent are somehow making it in the mainstream industry these days.

A more fitting name would be "ToonBoom Style," which has become the defacto production suite of commercial cartoons.

And that's not even ToonBoom's fault because the software is clearly capable of producing quality animation, but sadly the clear productivity improvements have resulted in us largely getting creatively stifled works.

In the old days the nerdy director and his storyboard artists had months to tinker with the animation. Now they have to just follow the models that have already been drawn when the show was in early development. Seriously if floors me to go back to the original Rugrats Pilot done by Peter Chung and notice how many crazy perspective shifts and odd camera angles he fits into a 6 minute cartoon.
This kind of animation is more or less long gone besides the remaining holdouts in Japan's Anime, because the work it took for this pilot could probably make a full season of the CGI Rugrats abomination.
