Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

I'm surprise Klasky-Csupo is still around. I thought they closed down years ago.
They just produced the new Rugrats reboot. But they've always been around... they just haven't been doing anything new for years, even though the company is still active.

True story - several years back I was in L.A. when I spotted the Klasky-Csupo building. I was shocked to see it was still up even though it was pretty much still as it was in the 90s - the building has drawings of characters from Rugrats on one side and Real Monsters on the other.

Even though the building was still up, there wasn't a single car in the parking lot. I had my suspicions about what was going on in there...

Arcane deserves it. It's one of the few things I've seen in the last decade that managed to fully live up to the hype, as well as a healthy way of conveying actual diversity without being malicious.

Apparently it’s not very good, it’s such a shame because from the trailers it was such a bizarre premise I thought thud pulloff some really amazing stuff with it but no, Mucz this ain’t. The film is funny and has very high quality animation and cute characters but that’s about it. A way more slight offering from the studio.

Also fucking kudos to him pointing out all the bitching about the character designs on Twitter, remember people!! this whole ‘Calarts’ style all cartoon nerds bitch about nowadays is a misleading non-term popularised by the king hack motherfucking John K himself. It was made simply out of spite because he was jealous at the stuff that CN we’re putting out these days getting more success than he ever had and wanted to coin a revenge phrase to get back at those he didn’t like. Don’t be sheep to friggin John K internet, all this misinformation about current western animation terms and speculations needs to stop.

It's called "CalArts Style" by people who dislike it and "Thin-Line Animation" by people who are more positive towards it, neither of which is at all accurate; I tend to think of it as "that Cartoon Network bean-mouth thing that looks fucking horrible".

It never meant anything but "anything I don't like" when John used it, even in the 80s.

I would at least call it "Wardesque" because everyone started copying his style after Adventure Time got big.

watch As Told By Ginger you cowards

It was OK, not my favourite Nicktoon. Also that bitch in the middle is a genuinely awful person and Ginger and the chick on the right deserve way better.

I can’t get past the clash of art style with Turning Red. The expressions are way too cartoony and over-the top compared to what the rest of the show looks like.
That's fair, you don't need to force yourself to enjoy something if the general aesthetic is bugging you. Personally I think it looks really good, easily one of Pixar's best looking movies.

though wasn't Ward contemporaries with Alex Hirsch and a couple of other 'CalArts' style users?

Arcane nailed the tackling of politics and didn't go the coward's route that certain pozzed corpos whose HQs are located in a certain American state keep doing like a broken record
