Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

Warrior Within is the best game in the series from a mechanical perspective and innovated on the first game's core mechanics in an intelligent, logical way.

It's just such a shame what they did to it aesthetically.
Honestly I don't even hate it. That 2000's edgy aesthetic hasn't aged well at all but it didn't feel that out of place back in the day. The aesthetic didn't fit well with SoT more light hearted tone and comes out of nowhere.

The combat is absolutely an improvement over the first game but the level design kind of got worse as the series continued and I don't know if I really like the dropping of the puzzles from the game design.

I think the biggest problem has to be the disjointed and inconsistent Prince over the three games.

Ugh, I remember thinking it was unbelievably cringy from day one, even while gay emo shit was actually trendy. The first game had such a cool, unique flavor to it and it was cast aside for something that made absolutely zero sense for the world or the character.

I personally kinda liked the pseudo-Metroidvania backtracking and opening of shortcuts to previously explored areas in WW. It gave that enjoyable "oh, I suddenly know where I am" feeling on a fairly regular basis.

I'll agree the lack of puzzles was a loss, but it also gained a more cohesive world rather than the other games that felt more like a sequence of game levels.

Absolutely. Even when they brought back the voice actor from the first game and tried to retcon much of the character in Two Thrones, the writing and characterization was much weaker than SoT (for both the Prince and Farah) and it really showed.

The whole argument is retarded.

You can have men with obvious V-Shape and nobody is complaining "where's their organs?" but as soon as you draw a 90-60-90 people go up in flames. There's such thing as stylized and exaggerated.

To be fair thats due to two thrones being basically a bungled POP 3 or kindred blades i mean some of the stuff that game was going to orginally have was insane i mean stuff like a open world babylon the fact that kaileena was supposed to live but instead farah died and you could switch between the dark prince and the light prince at your own will and endings that was affected by which form of the prince you used from

The worst part of SoT for me was the weird audio balancing. If I turn it up so I can hear the muffled voices, the combat music blows out my eardrums. And this is true in every version I played.

Console gaming is on the decline.

Gamers are in their forties now, and being older means less time to game. I play most on my PSP and Android. The last console I really enjoyed was the PS2.
Gamers have been in their forties as a large demographic since skyrim came out(the first time). Hell tabletop gaming has an entire demographic that ranges from 60-80 now.

Hardware sales are down due to supply constraints. But shit is not shelfwarming.

The problem is not a lack of realism - it's the weird gross proportions.

Look at Rob Liefeld's drawings. People complain about his "stylized", "exaggerated" men all the time because the proportions are fucked up and they look like weird obese monstrosities rather than buff dudes.

  • PC gaming attracts the biggest spergs in gaming that aren't little kids
  • People rightfully throw a lot of shit at EA, Ubisoft and other yearly release companies, but the japs have been doing way worse stuff for far longer, just look at Neptunia, .hack and a myriad other JRPG franchises, they're barely disguised asset flips and DLC machines
  • Halo 2 is the best in the series storywise, Reach was a good game, Infinite is acceptable, 4 was good for the multiplayer, and 5 was absolute dogshit in every aspect, and CE is a timeless classic only bogged down by some shitty levels
  • Shin Megami Tensei games get very boring by the end, when almost every encounter can be quickly ended by pressing the almighty AOE attack button
  • Vidya OSTs peaked in the 90's
  • TF2 isn't even that good, and it's barely playable now
  • Visual novels can be one of the best vidya genres, it's sadly bogged down by tons of coom bait and quirky writing
  • The Elder Scrolls games were never that good, people gave them a pass because they're unique, or they were, before Fallout became ES with guns
  • The OG Fallout is the best from the isometric era (FUCK FALLOUT 2)
  • Most of the indie scene is worthless, it only looks good in comparison because unlike AAA, you can't see most of the shit they release
  • Xbox makes the best controllers
  • First person dungeon crawlers can be pretty good, but even the best in the genre are bogged down by awful level design (looking at you, Eridanus)
  • The Switch isn't that bad if you get it at a discount
  • Demand for higher graphical fidelity are shackles to gaming
  • Gaming should have remained niche for it to continue being a good hobby

See the Sony fandom after the PS4.

Visual novels should abandon the Telltale method of storytelling and improve upon the Quantic Dream formula. See Detroit: Beyond Human.

Sega should remake Sonic the Hedgehog (2006.) It had a great premise with world building, they just needed more time. I think a remake would do wonders to fix their reputation.

This is a real unpopular opinion that I don't get. Say what you will about Quantic Dream writing (it's no worse than Telltale IMO), but at least they actually have some consequence and branching for their decisions.

Anytime I mention this though people just get mad cause lol David Cage is a weirdo. Like, yeah, he's a weirdo, but at least he puts some actual effort into visual novel/glorified movie games.

Beyond: Two Souls was wretched in writing and execution. Invisible walls, clunky controls, unnecessary screen borders. QD needs to remember that they are making video games. There's no need to be THAT restrictive in their gameplay.

I never played that cause I have a natural revulsion to Ellen Page. Actually I didn't play Heavy Rain either but I think I watched someone play it. I know I played Indigo Prophecy but it was so long ago I don't remember shit.

I don't remember finding anything overly clunky in Detroit. I was just surprised they let me be like "fuck these robots, they're not people" and make them fuck up their rebellion at every opportunity which I thought was surprising. And then I saw all the different trees and variations that could happen and was surprised, but maybe that's just because most shit I played from Playstation and Telltale the past 10 years has been ball numbingly linear.

I'm saying QD improved greatly from Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls to make Detroit: Beyond Human. I think if it was a bit more interactive beyond quick time events, it would've been a masterpiece.

Watching 4K highest graphics settings of "Let's Play" videogame livestreams or recorded, makes people lazy in wanting to fully play or compete their own copy, since the element of surprise is gone and many people would feel insecure about their gaming PCs not being up to the cutting edge.
If you're concerned about other people putting insufficient effort into playing video games, you need desperately to get a fucking life.

I am not concerned about insufficient effort or that maybe some folks like me start a game at easy just to play for the story.

To give an example of what I mean, I watched the long plays for a video game like Modern Warfare 2 for example back in the day, as I played the game years later as my computer was a potato.

It didn't feel much surprising to play since I knew from watching longplays, what to expect

My thoughts exactly, I honestly don’t care if a game has a bad or crappy fanbase, it’s not a turn off for me , I can still enjoy the game just as much and not give a shit about the bigger tards that ruin the community. People put way too much value on a piece of media’s fanbase almost as a way to discourage you from enjoying something, it’s so stupid.
Playing through Undertale after only being exposed to the fanbase is great, it makes the clever writing that much more surprising.
