Well economically they smartened up but Ideologically they function like communist run dictatorships. To the Reds credit they have done a good job at selling communism to the west, many rightwing have bought into it looking up to Putin as a strong leader and China as an economic powerhouse. There is no communism in China, it's just a bunch of companies that have to ass-kiss the government, quite literally it is very similar to Russia, where every company is partially owned by the government. If you try and turn an entire fucking country into the Warsaw Ghetto, you are going to get the Warsaw Uprising on a national scale, and now you have to fight the entire fucking war all over again.

I should have said irradiated wasteland, because that's the end game. It would be devoid of anything except ghouls, radscorpions, super mutants, wanamingos, Deathclaws and and +10 Rad/min. Plus whatever the slavs came up with in Stalker. It would be the perfect buffer.

I'm only half kidding. Making it uninhabitable by anyone/anything is the goal if the "close the sky" faggots get their way.

Everyone here is a military expert after years of practice playing HOI4 and Call of Duty. This is in addition to at least ten years of reading Wikipedia articles on foreign conflicts. Putin knows nothing compared to us

Putin must have been alive to see how the Red Army faced their Vietnam in Afghanistan.

And then lived to see America attempting it for 2 decades.

I will also add that NATO suddenly gets enough of a casus belli to invade outright. Kiev would be a smoking crater, but bases can still be built in Western Ukraine. Ones that will have actual air cover. At that point, Russia loses outright and turns into Slav Libya.

Actually, I'll give you that one. It's a given that any attempt at a no-fly zone would spill over into an air-to-ground war, and with the state of Russian forces down there, a US air campaign would fuck Russia hard enough that it wouldn't be able to hold the entirety of its border from a full NATO invasion. From there, I could see glassing Ukraine emerging as the least shit option available, because maybe, just maybe, it might not result in a counterstrike.
