To be fair to the point, it's less military bunker and more secure location as the whole region is transformed to be more self-sufficient.

Raise the level of the area to something approaching wartime restrictions, not pleasant but better than "out there", keep enough supplies, guns, and men that nobody really considers taking you on for the duration.

I’m older than you apparently since I grew up in Denver with being told hiding under those dumbass school desks would save me from all the nukes dropped on Cheyenne Mountain. Even as a middle schooler I looked at those desks and wondered why it would matter. In retrospect maybe it would have saved me from flying glass and being flash blinded? Funny thing is, Biden would have been the perfect president if a few things hadn't happened.

Microchip shortages.
Afghanistan.
Red states openly defying the Fed. (HOW DARE THEY!)
Having to extend the rent moratorium repeatedly.
California fucking things up on the shipping.
Defund the police having the result they convinced themselves it wouldn't have.
Then... Ukraine. Their money fountain and laundromat.
Biden unable to put together coherent sentences.
Kamala being WORSE somehow than their worst nightmares.
Most of America going "Fuck Ukraine, who gives a shit if potato niggers kill each other!"

If times were good, gas was $2, inflation wasn't crushing everyone's balls, and they would have been able to keep wages depressed and 5 people for every job, Biden would have been PERFECT.

Instead, they need a statesman and have a drooling senile puppet with a harridan wife who won't play ball and a ball fondling fellatio queen as VP.

Worse, they have nobody to take over.

And even WORSE...

Everyone is starting to hate them. They can't deflect it onto Trump or the Republicans.

And they have no fall back people.

The rest is a combination of enriching themselves, intentionally destroying Middle America's wealth, and actual fuckups because they're not that competent. But the fuckups are the least of it. Shutting down the pipeline wasn't some dumb mistake made because nobody knew what they were doing. Objectively things are bad (and I'd argue that they are really bad). People are getting angry and as media agencies, they want to preserve, not only their credibility, but also their ratings. If (and really when) things get worse, they need to preserve what little credibility they have left. Maybe they just see which way the wind is blowing.
