For people who have no sense of architectural consistency, the Japanese some how make it feel comfy. Sometimes.

Sometimes it's just awful, at least the colors aren't terrible. They can even make modern architecture look not bad, but they can't keep a neighborhood looking consistent to save their lives. I think they simply don't have a culture of permanence in their housing, you don't buy a house, you buy the land, knock the existing house down, and then build a new one. You don't think about how anything fits together, because it won't be there in forty years.
