I don't think that's necessarily true because SOMETHING always becomes a religion for people.

Yeah that's the point. I forget who said this but there's a quote that goes something like "when people stop believing in God they'll believe in anything." Traditional religion, aka Catholicism, is by far the least destructive thing people can believe in. I am a devout Catholic and truly believe in the Faith but frankly I get why some atheists claim that religion was invented as a tool to keep people in line. It probably was invented to do that with Judaism and down the line Christianity being the only organic religions. The point is, there needs to be some sort of a uniting ethos that imposes stringent moral standards upon people. We don't have that. Instead we have an ethos that ruthlessly persecutes heterodoxy and the statement of basic truths.

An interesting tidbit in Bezmenov's lecture besides the infamous 4 steps, is actually how his colleague found that societies without religion don't last very long.

And from personal experience, I can see why. Religion has a way of keeping everybody who follows and practices it very closely, together. As people of the same faith are usually very accommodating towards each other. At the same time, hold up its tennets as everyone desires salvation in the end. The ultimate carrot and stick.

Part of the reason why everyone has become quite the degenerate in the west is due to more people leaving the church. And as such, abandoning the values that make one Christian. Because if the US were a bit more theocratic, we really wouldn't be seeing that many simps and e-thots. Simps are idolators, giving worship to another person instead of God, and E-thots are just as guilty but in the terms of drawing worship away from the Lord. That and being vain. So an ideal system would definitely have religion. One of the good things I can say about a 3rd-world shithole like the Philippines is that its socially cohesive thanks to the strong Christian faith down there... even though there are weird denominations and sects popping about.

IMO a universal religion is inherently distasteful, because it implies submitting your nation's sovereignity to some external power.
