🐱 Disney’s ‘The Owl House’ Is the Future of Intersectional Representation

CatParty

When The Owl House first premiered on the Disney Channel in 2020, it became an instant hit with fans. The show follows Luz Noceda, a quirky and lively Latine girl as she gets transported into a magical world where she discovers she can fulfill her dreams of becoming a witch. At first glance, having a Latine protagonist on a Disney property isn’t a revolutionary feat. Disney’s Elena of Avalorand Pixar’s Coco come to mind as incredible examples of Latine-led stories under the Disney umbrella. But where Luz breaks all barriers, is by being Disney’s first, out and proud, bisexual lead character.

For the longest time, it’s felt as though leads in children’s animation could only be one thing on the diversity spectrum. You could either be a character of color (for example Anne Boonchuy from Amphibia, Jake Long from American Dragon: Jake Long), or a queer character (for example Adora from She-ra and the Princesses of Power, Kelsey Pokoly from Craig of the Creek), or a disabled character (Hiccup from How To Train Your Dragon, Felix Renton from Kim Possible) — but never more than one at the same time. It’s only recently that the intersectionalities of varying groups have been explored in animation.

Luz started the show representing weird, quirky, and outcast Latine kids everywhere. “When I was a kid, and I think a lot of kids feel like this — especially if you’re artsy or creative or have any kind of offbeat hobby — you feel a little left out. You feel a little detached from people and it might take you a little longer than most to find your crowd, your community,” Dana Terrace, the creator of The Owl House said in a Los Angeles Times article. But as the first season of the show progressed, it became clear that the team had bigger plans to push their desired representation further.

From the first season, the show confirmed Luz’s bisexuality after setting up her rival-turned-friend Amity as the romantic interest. The creator also mentioned that since development, she’s been very clear in her intention “[…] to put queer kids in the main cast.” Terrace, as well as many others in animation, have had to stand strong in their conviction to tell the stories and showcase the diversity they want to highlight. Thankfully, Terrace’s stubbornness paid off as Luz became one of a few characters in animation to date that is not just a Latine person, but who is also a part of the LGBTQ+ community. Her unique intersectionality is what makes her stand out and through the specificity of the people she’s “meant” to represent, is where she does the most good for our communities.

It’s important to understand that diversity isn’t one-sided, but rather exists in many forms and only becomes more specific in its intersections with each other. Luz is a perfect example of a character that’s both a person of color and part of the LGBTQ+ community. Ultimately, creating and championing characters whose representation is specific should never be seen as a bad thing because it’s through these specificities that universal stories flourish and viewers feel seen.

Also what exactly do they mean by queer kids? Kids aren't sexual yet. If they're teenagers they might have crushes on someone the same age, but "kids" is a really broad term, and "queer" can mean anything these days, from fancying the same sex to insane sick coomer shit.

Latine? Is that a misspelling? Or another subgroup created by insufferable white women? Whenever these terminal idiots fap off about "intersectionality", this is the image that comes to mind.

>woke animated show filled with tons of degenerate nonsense
>cancelled after only 2 seasons

Title of article checks out, that is the expected future of all this intersectional bullshit.
Disney usually allows 3 seasons, whatever the show was about was shit enough to be canceled halfways through it's lifespan.

CHIM Possible lasted 4 seasons.

She is Alex Hirsch's girlfriend, but somehow gets a pass for making her Latina and Tenchi Muyo fanfiction fetish show a reality? I thought white people making POC BGLT content like this was verboten. Is the show really like this or does the kid say "I like you!" and everyone counts it as delusional representation? Use of the word "Latine": 5 Use of the word "Bisexual": 2 Use of the word "Queer": 2 Bingo! This article sucks.

Owls are obligate carnivores who typically mate for life in a strictly heterosexual fashion.

They will also kill on sight (or will be killed by) any crows they encounter in a behavior at least some scientists consider genetic to both species; there's no rational reason the two bird species should hate each other the way they do. Nocturnal vs. diurinal, hunting small mammals vs opportunistic scavenger, etc. Not much overlap, except maybe for roosting spots. And this behavior may actually predate the evolution of homo sapiens, weirdly.

Crows vs. Owls: Enemies Ordained by Nature

To recap: Owls are straight, meat eating hunters of vermin who afffirm mating as one male and one female for life and also have an irrational hatred of those darker than themselves.

Have the goodthinkful ladies policing the English language finally given up on Latinx? I know actuals Latinos hate that word with a burning passion across the board, so maybe? Only problem is I keep reading this version as Latrine.

I'm afraid then she might do a reference to Desmond is Amazing. That's one of these times I wish I'm wrong.

To be more exact; Hirsch rage-quit Gravity Falls after about two seasons because Hirsch is a lazy as fuck hack who would rather force his subordinates to fuck him than do his job running a cartoon that executives loved and more than likely would have kept around for as long as humanly possible had Alex not been a prima donna.

At the time, there was several executives who wanted Hirsch to return/relaunch Gravity Falls after he threw a temper tantrum threatening anyone/everyone who might get hired to continue Gravity Falls in any way, shape or form (even though Hirsch knew damn fucking well that it was work for hire and he didn't own GF).

So they greenlit his girlfriend's show (pitched as Girl Harry Potter with a safe for Disney female version of Rick Sanchez) but instead, got a bunch of dyke shit with the main character sidelined for her dyke BFF/lover. Adding to this, unlike other Disney shows of this modern day, she made the dyke shit up front and center, as opposed to limiting it to supporting cast characters who could have their gay scenes cut for overseas syndication. And along with Alex (who got a cushy gig voice acting on the show, as his asshole behavior basically made it impossible for him to get the same cushy showrunner gig elsewhere combined with him and his gash's Disney fetish where they HAVE to have their shit made by Disney as Disney is the bestest ever AND all other companies suck to be associated with), used social media to repeatedly attack Disney for not being SJW enough for their liking, especially on gay stuff even though both him and his gash are straight.

So Owl House got canceled with S3 being reduced to three hour long specials for the sake of wrapping shit up, as Hirsch's white knight executives got fired and the new boss of Disney TV Animation has no fucking time for him and his gash's bullshit. Especially since Owl House was a huge flop in the ratings, especially compared to other shows which DID tow the Disney line and made it so that they could purge the gay shit for overseas audiences.

But since Hirsch and his gash like to pander hard to the woke crowd (to cover up the fact that Hirsch is a sexual predator), Owl House gets held up as the biggest thing for gays in media since Philadelphia.

As a gay man, I can tell you that there is a current cancer in the LGBT movement to trap kids who might be bicurious or just effeminate into being gay at a young age to swell the LGBT ranks and worse, groom/manipulate young gay kids into irreversibly mutilating themselves as kids by brainwashing gay kids and boys/girls who like girl/boy things into being trans to (again) swell the ranks of the LGBT, damn the irreversible damage it does to the kids.

I'm thankful to have been born before this bullshit happened, as I was the type of kid who would have been railroaded into a lot of the garbage currently going on in terms of groomer abuse of youngsters by members of the LGBT community who don't care about the damage they are doing to kids, in the name of swelling their ranks so they can bully straight people and non-compliant gay people who see through their groomer bullshit and call it out.

I can’t wait until Disney starts mostly making films about trannies and single women with cats because in the future that will be their only demographic.

You can't tell 'universal stories' while pandering to the narcissism of a self-segregating moralistic minority.

I really dont understand why woke people are so shy of using Latino or Latina. They really just have no respect for their culture.

In future documentaries on woke culture, I would love a compilation of all the stupid made up words used instead of proper vocabulary.
