Ralph kind of spergs out in waves, or cycles. You might even say he has seasons, like a TV show. After he bottoms out, he lays low for a few months. As time goes on, he regains his self-confidence, and he feels more comfortable reverting to his old behaviors. He builds up slowly over a few months to being extremely egomaniacal, often lashing out with risky behavior. This continues until he steps in shit again, then there’s usually a 2 or 3 week finale period where he burns bridges and tries to fight everyone. It all ends with Ralph being publicly humiliated. After that, he kind of slinks back to his show and acts like nothing happened. This is usually where he talks about quitting drinking (it’s easier for him to blame the substance than accept responsibility), and vows to not get involved in drama. It’ll stay boring for a while until the cycle begins again.

But don’t be fooled—Ralph never learns. He’s incapable of honest reflection. Once he has even a sliver of success, he’ll start building up to that fragile egomaniacal state we all love so much.

I thought Ralph actually looked a little bit better than normal during that bit, mostly because Flam seemed desperate to drag Ralph into a shouting match (Ralph drama has done wonders for his numbers, after all) and it seemed Ralph was trying to avoid Flam's bait for the most part - not entirely successful, but it seemed like Ralph was sober enough to realize nothing good was going to come from drunken Ralph's "you go low, I go lower" shenanigans. If Ralph had been able to avoid the bait entirely, Flam would have looked flailing and desperate and definitely would have taken an L if even just a small one, but…

Ralph defines winning as not getting treated like a bitch. If someone hits you, you hit back harder, and you deal with the consequences. That is how you maintain your dignity in Ralph World. Ralph is the one who wrote these rules, so he must play them. Well, Flamenco treated Ralph like a bitch, and Ralph was too scared to do anything about it. Flamenco won, and Ralph lost.
