I think it's also worth remembering that Chris had put quite a lot of trust into Bella up to that point, with her being one of Chris's latest sweethearts, and being one of the only people Chris would confirm that he was fucking his mother. Though I think it's also worth pointing out that Chris had informed Bella about an affair with a "sweetheart over 50" literally two weeks before Bella had the call with him.
