It's because they had crushes on goth girls while they were in their early teens 20 or so years ago. Natasha Ward is a former D1 track athlete, so it's not like she jumped into this issue for no reason; she's personally invested. Nevertheless, fighting for the right of female athletes to to participate in fair competition is DISGUSTING and HATEFUL and WRONG. The few people acknowledging her point in the replies were drowned out by a campaign to get her sacked.
As the situation blew up, other Station 19 cast members (Jaina Lee Ortiz, Barrett Doss, Shane Hartline, Peter Paige) subtweeted Natasha Ward with pro-trans messages.
Writers Emily Culver and Zaiver Sinnett posted TWAW in their Instagram Stories.
And now she's been publicly, explicitly denounced by Paris Barclay, an executive producer.
I can't imagine her returning to the show after that. She's finished. All because she dared to stick her neck out and say that people are free to live as they please, but your right to swing your fist ends where my nose begins. Incredibly brave of her to do it in the face of substantial consequences: she's a television actress just starting to get multi-episode roles, and now she's made an enemy of Shondaland. This is exactly why normal people without fuck you money — like the swimmers competing against Lia Thomas — feel immense pressure to bite their tongues.

Probably optimistic of me, but I'd think that, given her physique and talent, she would still have opportunities in the future. Not anything like she has now, but I don't think her career is completely finished. Besides, even if she never becomes an actress she could still find other job choices. If she was some random, frumpy, middle-aged office worker, then she'd be finished.
