In my city there are Crustpunks running around everywhere. They will often claim to have come sort of spiritual enlightenment and radical politics and wear expensive looking pants as shown below

They smell like a combination of feces and marijuana and will often harass commuters.
Have any other kiwis had such experiences with Crustpunks irl

Not really a good or bad experience, but I did run into a small group of them when I was in Austin, TX one time. It was almost like something out of Condemned 2: Bloodshot. They smelled like absolute ass and looked like they bathed whenever it rained, and from the way one was laying on the ground all bug eyed and reaching up at the sky, I'm pretty sure he was tripping on Salvia or something.

I travel down to Baltimore for Maryland Deathfest every year, and there's always a swarm of crusties that descend upon the city around that time. Usually a tent city will get set up right across from the venue, with lots of crusties living out of their vans with their malnourished pitbulls. (It always seems to be pitbulls that they have with them.) They never actually buy tickets into the venue, preferring instead to steal the wristbands off other people, beg for change outside the gates, or sell one-dollar shots of rotgut whiskey. You can smell them for blocks.

The best/worst part of this is that there's a homeless shelter next to the venue that's usually overwhelmed with people, it being inner-city Baltimore and all. There's a tent city of homeless people right across from the shelter waiting for their applications to get approved or for a vacancy to open up, and they've pitched up across the street because they literally have nowhere else to go.

So here you've got a bunch of people homeless because they're victims of circumstance, and then you walk a few blocks and there's a bunch of people homeless because they think it's an authentic lifestyle choice. I think that really says it all.

The first are to be pitied. The second, you kind of wonder where Alex and his droogies are when you need em.

I knew a gal in high school who was deep into all things punk. She loved getting into "I'm punker-than-thou" pissing contests with all the other punks on campus.

I met her again a year or so after graduation, and by then she had gone full crust, living from couch to couch and mooching whenever possible. She reeked of cheap beer and cheaper cigarettes.

My last encounter with her was at a bizarre shindig thrown in a shitty one-bedroom apartment in the... rougher part of town, where she spent the night and ended up locking herself in the bathroom for several hours the following morning, shower running the whole time.

After having to walk all the way to the nearest gas station just to piss, we got back in time to see her finally exit the bathroom - somehow filthier that when she entered - and accompanied by one of her equally-filthy crust punk friends. They spent the whole time pretending to shower just so they could have a private place to fuck in the only closed-off part of this tiny apartment.

EDIT: This is the last time I make a post this long on my fucking phone, I swear.

Man, that...that. Their wasn't anything cool about that link.
I dunno, that first pic had a lady fucking a snowman. That's pretty cool.

Quite happy that we don't seem to have many Crusties down this end of the world. Haven't run into any personally.

They're in the middle of their winter migration from Portland to Astoria, so I can barely go 4 blocks without running into one or more.

Back where I grew up punks and their crusty brethren were quite regular, and we were too far in the middle of the woods to have trust-fund faux-punks.

I knew a guy who lived in a crash pad where the toilet broke. Everyone kept shitting in it anyway - for months. There was crap a foot high on top of it (and everywhere else). I think they just ditched the place.

I also know a guy who gave himself the clap by not washing his underwear for months.

I've encountered some in both Wellington and Hamilton but yeah there aren't many of them in NZ.

But when I was in Berlin last year I encountered a fairly sizable group who were trying to bum their way though Europe and I don't think I've ever came across people who smelt that bad before, as a person could take a bath in dog shit and they would still come out smelling better than they did . Though interesting enough the night before they attempted to squat in an area that was popular with gypsy scam artists and it ended badly for them as the gypsies weren't too keen on them scaring off potential victims and decided to beat the shit out of them.

I go to Denton (think a mini Austin TX) on occasion to the bars and shit and there's always one playing the fucking bongos or the flute without any shoes on and it makes me so fucking mad.

Sometimes they just hang out in the little restaurants there and get mad when the employees there tell them they can't just get a free water and hang out for hours.

I've seen some heading that way years ago in Dunedin (though there's a very thin line between crustpunks and students down there), but never seen any up in Auckland. All they get there is homeless people begging for cash.
