We don't live in the 70s.In my city rents have gone up 50-100% since pre-pandemic. Seen some wild scenarios of people paying $1500 and going up to $3500 in a single increase. These were people making like $4k a month after tax. Pretty much every week is somebody on the local subreddit, facebook groups, etc is somebody saying "Sayonara Folks! I've been priced out, its been nice knowing you all!". And it's not off to the burbs either, because those are expensive too, so they are leaving the entire region or even the state.

Well that's where the jobs and opportunities are. So good luck in whatever bumfuck town you're from trying to go up the ladder and build a good career. Also inflation is hitting there too.
And it will only get worse. Just a sign of things to come for the rest of the country which hasn't caught up yet.
Get a good job with a globohomo corp and buy a house now and maybe you can push the problem for yourself back another generation.
