Even if Ukraine pushes Russia away from Kiev and Kharkiv, they are going to be in a sticky situation in the south. The best Ukrainian troops are on the Northern Front right now, and sending them to the south would risk allowing Russia to reorganize and make another push. Not surprised if Ukraine managed to gain enough momentum, they would also push for liberating Donbass. Not sure about Crimea though, Kremlin probably would choose Crimea over Donbass
Russia failing to take Kiev is going to put Ukraine in a pickle. They will have to decide if the border with Belarus and the Russian Federation is inviolate, or whether they need to keep going and keep hitting the enemy army to prevent them from regrouping. In essence, invading Belarus and Russia proper.
We are still a ways off from that point though. At a minimum though Russias attempt to take Kiev can be officially labeled a failure. The question now is if Russia can hold their position.
