We could have maintained a presence in Afghanistan and kept pretending it was a country in more than name only forever if we had the will to do it, unlike Russia could there or in Ukraine.

And we didn't "loose it all in 20 days" we had been giving up territory for years because anyone with any sense could see it was foregone conclusion. The American public had essentially forgotten Afghanistan existed after 2012, it only got back in the news again when talks of negotiations with the Taliban were being thrown around and even then no one really payed attention until the month of the actual withdraw/evacuation.
