Been lurking here and man what a great but moti read. I was so bummed when my favorite cow Jude Valentin went the way of the dodo when she was ‘cancelled’ . I know a lot of it has already been said but it’s so easy to see that these people are awful with money, or are just fucking lazy.
Without PL too much I live in a high living cost state. I’ve never paid more than $250 for electric..for a house. I’m sure multiple companies do it, but you can split the costs of your “higher spending months” so that your bill is always the same every month. Yeah it’s a little more upfront but you’re not also paying $300 when you run ac in summer or something . Also goes without saying but when you’re in a more urbanized place like kittie, there’s plenty of resources for the impoverished. There’s heating subsidies for cold months, food & toy drives. In fact there was almost an overabundance of food at pantries during Covid, they were offering it to anyone before the food expired.
Have these people ever heard of places like dollar tree, savers, Aldi, goodwill, Ross etc etc ? Something as little as $10 goes a loooong way at places like these and you’d be surprised at the stuff you can find that are just as good as their more expensive counterparts. hell even Facebook marketplace has some great finds and sometimes people offer shit for free as long as you make arrangements to pick it up.
It’s sad to say but people like this and social media is why I’ve become hesitant to donate to a stranger even if their cause is legitimate. I’m more inclined to just help people I’ve met. I’ll help a hard working trying to make ends meet coworker by covering their lunch or gas rather than buying these fuckers weed. They act like people who work don’t have their own issues, illnesses, or kids to feed..oh and if you’re not part of whatever the oppressed group of the day is your struggles are invalid.

The most junior of enlisted must actually petition their chain of command to live out in town and receive BAH - they have to present their finances and the rent they're going to be paying, to prove that (a) they aren't living beyond their means with or without BAH (basic allowance for housing) and that they aren't proposing to live in a slumlord's hovel (so they can legally break their lease upon change of orders - there are clauses in legitimate rental properties to allow this, as well as not living somewhere that's blacklisted by the command - this is normally due to rampant drugs and/or violence or a record of taking young idiot soldiers/sailors for a ride). Hell, my command went so far as to require junior sailors (E4 and below mandatory, E5 recommended) petitioning to live out in town go to a CFS (command financial specialist) to ensure they could actually afford their accommodations should a roommate flake out on them. And to top this shit off, depending on the command, junior enlisted may not even be afforded the opportunity to live out in town below certain ranks (my last command wouldn't allow E3 or below live out in town unless married, provided room was still available onboard the ship or, while in the shipyard with the ship uninhabitable, in the barracks).
I've seen junior enlisted who live smartly (aka: not drinking their paychecks away or knocking up random locals who take their meager funds in child support) and amass pretty decent savings during their formative early years in the military. Those that stay and make rank aren't exactly hurting if they're not retards with their money.
