Ruby is kinda meh, but Weiss and Blake look fucking awesome. Yang is yang, which is great. No robot arm interestingly enough.

Weiss and blake look borderline villainous. Could be really awesome if they decide to go down a route were each of them embraces power and just goes apeshit.

That's what's frustrating about Rwby. the base concept is SOLID. It really is, but they either dont have the balls or the money to go though all the way.

There needs to be some real consequences. Going forward I really hope this steals all the steam and takes over the franchise.

Weiss is way overdone, the greatcoat is way too heavy for Weiss' style.

Not sure why they gave Ruby a snowboard.

I’m pretty happy they got of Weiss’ side ponytail. It looks stupid.

Blake looks like the one with fanservice, and I wonder how they’ll do the Faunus aspect since she has the Black Panther gloves.

And seeing as they have Yang with two arms instead of one, looks like we’re getting a start from square one.

If she hasn't taken over the family business, gained control of an army and or gone mad with power.....then yeah, it's pretty overdone.

I just really want to see some dark shit. They dont even have to radically change anybody's personality to make it dark. Just give their powers, the Grim and collateral damage weight.

Gen has been hit and miss for me, but I really respect his willingness to go to some dark places without feeling overdone and pointless. I think he is exactly what this franchise needs.

Most anime studios that try to go dark do it so poorly though. Just being dark on it's own isn't daring or weighty, it's just dark. How you handle that material is what matters and the majority of the Japanese studios just don't so well with it since it always just becomes melodrama.

I can't say I like RWBY, but I'll give the first episode a go at least. Tow Ubukata on writing duties is promising. He wrote Fafner: Dead Aggressor and that's one of my all-time favorites.

GiTS: Arise? You mean the most mediocre GiTS that gets by on the IP? That show was all flash and very little substance, especially considering the shoulders it was standing on.

Arise was more subtle as far as philosophy was concerned. It's not as in your face as Innocence, and its more spread out over the series. There were definitely a lot of interesting situations as far as brain hacking and cyborg development was concerned.

Really it's biggest sin is it changed the voice actors and it wanted to be a Muppet movie origin story. It wanted to tell how section 9 came to be, but it didn't want to step on Stand Alone Complex's shoes so it called itself an AU. As somebody who watched ALL the GITS up to this point I think its a fantastic origin story for the major and the gang with a few easily handwaved continuity errors.

The series is very interconnected by an arc concerning a brain hacking malware and programmer called firestarter. Essentially you'd have terrorist of the week plots that all shared an arc that was resolved in the final movie. I thought the writing and action was pretty good.

The whole OVA format is a little confusing. So Id recommend just watching the Alternative Architecture TV series and 2015 movie. Especially considering the tv show has extra footage.
