I saw a thing on twitter showing crowds in London marching around Trafalgar Square with their lil yellow and blue flags, to show that they stand with Ukraine.

Is that helping any, other than getting people outside for some fresh air and exercise?

Binkov's Battlegrounds just released a video explaining possibilities on why Russia has slowed down based on current information, with out shilling for a side or sperging out. Boils down to Russia severely underestimating Ukraine and their willingness to fight.
It's a mediocre take. He's basing a lot of what he's saying on basically "trust me bro" type information from the Ukrainian side. Mainly on three points.
  • Russian morale is bad
  • Russia didn't expect this to be a long war
  • Russia has major logistical problems
The first one we just don't know since there's not really much coming out from the Russian side so he's basically just taking Ukraine's word for it. The second one seems highly unlikely since it seems like any time Russian forces faced any real resistance in a populated area, they immediately went to siege warfare, which is not something you normally see from an army that's looking for a short war. The third one is just an out-and-out lie. The Ukrainians said Russia would already be out of supplies by this point but that's clearly not the case. All that aside, there doesn't seem to be a move by the Russians to either withdraw or bring in reserves so while things might not be as easy for Russia as they were hoping they would be, there's no indication that they're scrambling to avoid a defeat.

Yulia Chicherina installed the Victory Banner on the building of the Security Service of Ukraine in Melitopol

The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation took control of the base of the national regiment "Azov" in Yuryevka.

I mean it helps convince politicians they have support to keep sending the ukies weapons, but that's about it, and even then the effect is minimal. But people getting exercise is always a positive.

A Russian wanting to give Stalin a second chance? You're a more forgiving people than I previously thought.
As a whole, Russians like having a strong leader/boss, known as a 'vozhd'. Those who would want a Stalin back tend to be elderly/clueless. They remember order, but conveniently forget the GULAG/purges/hunger/shortages.

Looking at Putin, he could be considered a sort of vozhd, in that he has things largely under control, the way he wants them. No real need for a GULAG. Most people know what they can criticize and what they cannot. Even those arrested for anti-war statements are dealt with through the Russian legal system, albeit one at Putin's command.

There are no sweeping purges throughout society, but have heard Putin has been firing people in his government who either haven't performed well, are against the debacle in the Ukraine, or both. The average Russian doesn't fear the 3:00 a.m. knock on the door. Wonder why 3:00 a.m. is a popular time to pick people up? Human body is at the lowest ebb at that time, most normally asleep. Can testify to that when working mid shifts, many years ago. See a lot of coffee/cola drinks consumed around that time.

Russia has enough to eat, fuel, places for everyone to live, etc., of varying types/quality. No rationing, unlike most of Stalin's time.

Just wish those hankering after another Stalin would read Bloodlands and the GUlAG Archipelago. Might wake some of them up.

i gotta say russian propaganda efforts are impressive. they got multiple narratives ready, one for each target audience.

for the anti-war moralfag crowd, there's the classic "remember the six gorillion iraqi children massacred by ameriKKKa!"
for the internet edgelords, there is "cancel culture is coming for our entire country! this is just like when facebook banned you for niggerposting!"
for the isolationist america first crowd, there is "lmao why would we in america even care about ukraine, it is so irrelevant"
for the boomers, there is "oy vey look at these ukraine nazis! we must demilitarize them before they holocaust us again!"

all of them you can see on their different channels. embassy tweets, RT news, vatniks on telegram, government proclamations, etc.
NGL it also shows patterns in marketing and human behaviors; 20 years ago every outlet had the same bullshit story about yellow cake everyone around the world regardless of age, race, poltical opinion, etc. had to buy into.

just like how everyone has to be a fan of NSYNC or watch Titanic or enjoy the latest jim carey or george cloony vehicle. now instead of one major lie "one size fits all" its a bunch of smaller but more acceptable lies. just like how media and celebrity is smaller, everyone has a different favorite podcast, band, comedian, music genre.

it also shows how much they care too. the US has written off at least half the population for over a decade now as unreachable, and actively mock them to reinforce the propoganda to a smaller and smaller minority

American pilots aren't, idk about Ukrainian ones. I mean given we saw a severely overweight Russian pilot, they may follow different standards for what pilots can and can't do. The only reason I'm comparing with Russia is I'm assuming they probably have similar guidelines seeing as both descended from the soviet air force.

Was told many years ago the fatter (and shorter) pilots could handle G-forces better than taller and skinnier pilots. Not sure if that's correct, but the US military has weight standards. Pilots can't get all that fat. Never saw any really fat pilots, but didn't pay that much attention to pilots anyway, even being a USAF officer.

I remember you explaining this in the last thread. For me, it was one of the posts that stood out to me the most.

Also, to my knowledge, the Chinese gov't and populace have this kind of master-servant relationship too, hence the existence of people like Mao, Jinping, Shihuangdi of the Qin dynasty, etc.

If you look at history, you definitely pick up that some cultures distinctly favor authoritarian leaders. China is definitely one of those.

did make Tom Cruise being a very realistic candidate for a pilot in Top Gun tho, the crazy little midget.
