Imo there are two countries which if you're on the opposite side from, you're at the very least on the side of the lesser of two evils. The US, and Israel.

Sure sounds to me Putin wanted to put all of Ukraine firmly under Russian control.

Russia has not changed its demands since the war has begun. No amount of digging up off-hand comments aimed at a global political audience and journos saying dumb shit to appease Putin is going to change that. Though as I've said in the past, I do think demilitarization will be taken off the table, though once again, I'm just a rando talking about a war on an lolcow site so I have absolutely zero idea about how likely that is.
