That wasn't a thing in our generation, which is one of the many reasons I find his stunted growth so bizarre. He's not a product of his environment to anywhere near the degree that I usually see in people with similar problems.

"Saturday Night Street Fighter" also didn't occur to him, despite being the most obvious choice. I don't think this is the case here, but he really makes himself look like he does it on purpose to mislead people. He IS the guy who likes to stall and give people blue balls on what his "announcements" are, after all, knowing they're likely to be disappointed.

I think his experiences online have played a huge role in this, because as you note, he used to be more willing to put effort in. All that training he did in Super Turbo years ago isn't something you can picture him doing with ANYTHING today, even if he really cares about it. I think being laughed at so much broke him of the little bit of work ethic he once had. He's such a child in so many ways, it makes the most logical sense that that's what happened here too. He refuses to try anymore, because that's giving the laugh-ats what he thinks they want: power over him.

Just look at his excuses for not trying new fighting games. They all involve talk of how much he would have to practice. He used to do that, and then people laughed at him, so now he won't. Like a pouty toddler.

i don't think you people fully grasp the hilarity of this.

we already know derich gets so confused by imposters that when he sees an imposter message he has to check if he actually said it or not.

imagine having such a thin grasp on reality and then having your white whale lean over and tell you that something you said "isn't really you"

man must've been completely lost for the rest of the day.

my god this "I'm going to be 40" speech is so stupid, it's like some shitty sitcom writing staff went "hey lets have one of the character hit 40 now open up the check list of tropes and shitty sitcom jokes about turning 40" and he's also admitting that his life was a waste and at 40 he has nothing to look back on with joy.

Seriously it's like this dude picked up some spencer's gifts gag gift "So now you're 40" book and thought it was a guide.

This is weird.
Phil went out of his way on the late stream to claim that the person on the earlier stream was an imposter, that Derich doesn't watch Elden Ring, and wouldn't talk about Linux.

But if the earlier one wasn't him, then Phil banned Derich during a stream while Derich was trying to talk a day ago and Derich just noticed after the day stream banning?
That, or Phil shitting on Derich again gaslit the poor dent into saying it wasn't him that Phil banned earlier so they could both save face.

It has finally sank in that he has no future, and though he doesn't admit the real reason why, he does have plenty of things he can pretend are to blame.

This is why it's dumb to say that he has suffered no consequences. He may make six figures, but that's literally only keeping him from being homeless, and the ONLY thing doing that. It's the one consequence he hasn't yet suffered, emphasis on "yet", and it's not even making him feel good anymore. It's not protecting his emotions at all. He doesn't get to feel smug, probably ever again.

And he still has more of a decline to look forward to.

So he can't identify the real Derich anymore and probably just shit on the real Derich twice for the same thing, despite knowing that the earlier one may have been him because they spoke on Twitter.
He's quite lucky his fans like being abused.

Sidenote: Phil just explicitly said that he has to calculate his monthly business expenses for his taxes.
Phil has not spent a substantial amount on his 'business' since the PS5 release. Everything else has been gifted, gamepass meant that he purchased next to no games for an extended period of time, he has repeatedly begged for and apparently received game credits for game purchases, and his internet is a relatively fixed and stable amount. So other than far fewer receipts than normal each month, what exactly requires extensive calculations for business expenses? It's as though there is some significant 'business expense' that is variable each month... hmmm.

But he's also equally likely to be blowing this out way of proportion so he can take a few nights off.

And his birthday celebration will be a gaming marathon.
That thing that he said he was not going to do for his birthday when someone asked.

Who the fuck knows? Should be put into the OP be updated to include this one? It was still funny to hear Phil assume Derich is too stupid to talk about Linux. Autistic people are just weird and very obsessive, but not stupid. Derich's fascination with Phil is because Phil offers comfort and stability.
