That aside, you have to think about what was gained. Will made himself look emotionally volatile, regardless of the sympathy you could have for him after his wife revealed that he cucked him with some rapper and that said rapper made her "happy". How does Will benefit from this, if it's only a stunt? He has enough star power and notoriety without doing this.

Was it for Chris Rock's notoriety? At best, he doesn't gain anything, but otherwise he looks like an asshole for poking at a soft spot for Will.

Is it for... the notoriety of the Oscars? Did Will agree to make an ass of himself for the sake of a pretentious cabal whose opinions on movies and actors are only valued because they can fund a multi-hour wankfest for them? Did Chris agree to make himself a heel/get socked for the same purpose? Would something like this drive traffic to the Oscars even though it was resolved in less than a minute, and you can just watch the clip instead of tuning in? You'd think that the people who planned this out would have balanced out the jackassery between the two parties more.

I can’t imagine the Oscars would script two black men getting into a fight on live television, to the point that ABC both froze the screen and muted the mic for like 30 seconds.

Also had Denzil and Tyler Perry pulling Will to the side and calming him down during the commercial break.
