President Joe Biden on Tuesday said that the United States will impose sanctions “far beyond” the ones that the United States imposed in 2014 following the annexation of the Crimean peninsula.

“This is the beginning of a Russian invasion of Ukraine,” Biden said in a White House speech, signaling a shift in his administration’s position. “We will continue to escalate sanctions if Russia escalates,” he added.

Russian elites and their family members will also soon face sanctions, Biden said, adding that “Russia will pay an even steeper price” if Moscow decides to push forward into Ukraine. Two Russian banks and Russian sovereign debt will also be sanctioned, he said.

Also in his speech, Biden said he would send more U.S. troops to the Baltic states as a defensive measure to strengthen NATO’s position in the area.

Russia shares a border with Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

A day earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered troops to go into the separatist Donetsk and Lugansk regions in eastern Ukraine after a lengthy speech in which he recognized the two regions’ independence.

Western powers decried the move and began to slap sanctions on certain Russian individuals, while Germany announced it would halt plans to go ahead with the Russia-to-Germany Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

At home, Biden is facing bipartisan pressure to take more extensive actions against Russia following Putin’s decision. However, a recent poll showed that a majority of Americans believe that sending troops to Ukraine is a “bad idea,” and a slim minority believes it’s a good one.

All 27 European Union countries unanimously agreed on an initial list of sanctions targeting Russian authorities, said French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, and EU foreign affairs head Josep Borell claimed the package “will hurt Russia … a lot.”

Earlier Tuesday, Borell asserted that Russian troops have already entered the Donbas region, which comprises Donetsk and Lugansk, which are under the control of pro-Russia groups since 2014.

And on Tuesday, the Russian Parliament approved a Putin-back plan to use military force outside of Russia’s borders as Putin further said that Russia confirmed it would recognize the expanded borders of Lugansk and Donetsk.

“We recognized the states,” the Russian president said. “That means we recognized all of their fundamental documents, including the constitution, where it is written that their [borders] are the territories at the time the two regions were part of Ukraine.”

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Putin said that Ukraine is “not interested in peaceful solutions” and that “every day, they are amassing troops in the Donbas.”

Meanwhile, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday morning again downplayed the prospect of a Russian invasion and proclaimed: “There will be no war.”

“There will not be an all-out war against Ukraine, and there will not be a broad escalation from Russia. If there is, then we will put Ukraine on a war footing,” he said in a televised address.

The White House began to signal that they would shift their own position on whether it’s the start of an invasion.

“We think this is, yes, the beginning of an invasion, Russia’s latest invasion into Ukraine,” said Jon Finer, the White House deputy national security adviser in public remarks. “An invasion is an invasion and that is what is underway.”

For weeks, Western governments have been claiming Moscow would invade its neighbor after Russia gathered some 150,000 troops along the countries’ borders. They alleged that the Kremlin would attempt to come up with a pretext to attack, while some officials on Monday said Putin’s speech recognizing the two regions was just that.

But Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told reporters Tuesday that Russia’s “latest invasion” of Ukraine is threatening stability in the region, but he asserted that Putin can “still avoid a full blown, tragic war of choice.”

Apparently, mofos on /pol/ are pumping out videos of the supposed mistreatment of Russian POW's by Ukrainians, but it's actually from Russian/Chechen war
Just something I've read, not sure how true that is.
Showed the kneecapping video to my friend from Ukraine, he also found it suspect that they speak clear Russian throughout the whole thing, and swear a lot as they do. Lack of insignia on some uniforms as well as fabric armbands on one hand instead of blue tape on both as Ukrainians tend to do (at least one had none whatsoever). Some sus radio talk and callsigns, but it's hard to discern due to noise.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised at all if this turns out to be Russians shooting their own soldiers in the kneecaps while pretending to be Ukrainians to make Ukraine look bad.

Some vlog from a Ukrainian soldier, among notable things is strong wind that prevents shelling and allows them to push back Russians, as well as captured WWII Nazi uniform among Russian stuff for some reason (probably to claim that it belongs to Ukrainians in some staged shit, dunno)

Here he tells the story about Chernobayevka where Russians kept coming back repeatedly to the base after Ukrainian artillery shelled it, for some inexplicable reason, it's hilarious. I found out about it from the post in this thread few pages back first, didn't hear about it otherwise and it sure as hell deserves attention

LMAO he says Russians are digging trenches in radioactive soil of Chernobyl, that's hilarious if true
The thing with the airbase or whatever has been mentioned before in this thread, but that's still so insane that those Russians just mindlessly repeat these actions without just killing off their commanders sending them out on these death sentences. It's like the higher ups are just throwing their hands up in the air in frustration and saying "well try it again!" every time they fuck up because they can't figure out how to unfuck things for themselves.

Must make Putin feel like an absolute genius being surrounded by such idiots.

Perhaps the saddest part about people shilling for Russia is that I don't even believe most of them are getting paid at all. Why the fuck would Russian state apparatus waste resources on something like the 'farms? These people spreading Russian bullshit are just retarded, spineless shitfaces, living in their moms basement and siding with the Russians in this one because "globohomo BAAADDDD!". Sad, so SAD.
If these retards want to fuck with globohomo so bad, then they should go and fucking fight it, instead of jerking off to Russia on the web.

It's only possible because 1) They're poorly organized; 2) "Orders are orders"

Most of those complaining about Ukraine's "war crimes" do not give a shit about "war crimes" and people can trot out one example after another of Russia being 10x worse yet this isn't causing the anti-Ukraine people to turn around and demand consequences for Russia in any way shape or form, because they don't give a shit about war crimes. I'm sure there will be people that will cry and say they're neutral and just calling out wrongs where they see them, yet for obvious reasons they shut the fuck up when it comes to Russia's wrongs.

There is going to be no convincing of anyone on this topic and all it will do is shit up the thread even more than it already has been because it'll just be a back and forth for ages where those wanting to slobber all over Putin's cock whine about why Russia must be the real victim while others point out the evil shit Russia has been up to.
Same as the 'skeptics' that will tell you 'you are not immune to propaganda, remember Iraq WMDs and Saddam incubators?' right before proceeding to uncritically regurgitate whatever the Kremlin narrative of the week is whether it's biolabs or hohol nazi death squads murdering Russian-speaking families or that the petrodollar is going to collapse any day now.

Do you realize that I'm not cheerleading for Zelensky here, right? If he has a mansion in Miami Beach, then it's likely from his business days, as his production company "Kvartal 95" has had long-standing connections with a Jude billionaire Ihor Valeriyovych Kolomoyskyi, former owner of the biggest bank in Ukraine.

He might as well be a corrupt asshole. What he does right now is more important. When it's peacetime, the people will decide whether they will take him to answer for what he's done or forgive his sins.

What are you trying to prove with this shit?

Elaborate on your point, please or be forever a retard.

The orders are to occupy the airbase.

Thats as far as it goes, most likely. Wont be to secure it all properly and ensure they dont get fucking artillery struck every five minutes, nope. Just go there and occupy it.

Another one's getting fragged at this rate.

"ZA PUTINKA!"

Well, that and the old time-tested method of "Well, we'll only maybe die if we go and face the enemy, but we'll definitely die if we disobey orders." IIRC there's been talk of totally-not-commissars making the rounds to ensure all the cannon fodder are ready to die for Mother Russia, so its not like you've got very good choices. Especially since your next of kin will get a few million rubles if you die to enemy action, but none if you get shot for cowardice.

You meant "ZA PUTINA" but that works as well.

I don't know Russian, so thanks for the correction. But yes, things in Russia have gotten increasingly cultish with the Z stuff that's started to show up there.

Although, IIRC it was a 500 gram daily ration of vodka for the average Russian soldier in WW2, with an extra ration or two prior to really nasty assaults. So yeah, FOR THE VODKA! also works, since its a time-tested and battle-proven way to get your men to engage in rank idiocy that will almost certainly get them killed.

Some were able to predict that 10 years ago.

My mother, Moscow the capital,
Swelled and grew,
The golden mare
gave birth to me, a donkey.

To me the wise men: the bear of the grove,
The sparrow owl and the mole -
They brought me wolf berries,
The bitch's cheese, the wasp's honey.

I rode like a badger
On a green carpet.
I was born a brute
And I'll die a beast.

The time has come for me to get married,
She took me away with her,
The seductive toad,
A classmate, a pig.

I've been blending in with the population,
I took loans, ate shish kebab,
I smiled at the TV,
I was addicted to bitter drinks.

I didn't believe, I didn't fast
I thought I'd get over it,
He who was born a beast
Will die a brute.

There was a story on the BBC earlier, about Zelensky offering neutrality as part of a peace deal, but it seems to have been demoted to "just" an opinion piece on their live feed. There's no direct link to the original.

It's pretty obviously a stalling tactic, anyway. The timeline would require Putin to withdraw and wait a whole year before getting what he claims to want.

Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine just published a list of 620 FSB members, who are claimed to be working as intelligence officers in Europe.

Big if true, it means there is someone in FSB with pretty high clearance who's feeding them that data, could also explain some of Ukrainians successes against Russian military if they were given info about troops movements before orders were given.

I mean, you can call the numbers in the list and ask. :D
Yeah, no, I get enough indian scam calls, I don't need my number added to Russian databases.

I only hope that info was passed to western intelligence agencies long before they made it public because otherwise this is a lethally stupid mistake as those guys are just going to pack and run if they're not watched by someone.

This war have basically threw the decades of work by the Russian spooks thrown out of the window. Western Intelligence, previously too reluctant to do something with them, will now be forced to hunt down every single one of Russian spies in their country. With justification such as this, there's no way in hell Governments won't give them some gibs to do the counter-intelligence operations now
