Unironically this. Novgorod republic was a member of the Hanseatic league and European as fuck, we could have had this fancy democracy thing and all of them human rights nonsense.

The fall of the noble Novgorod Republic was a disaster and one of the most gut-wrenching events in Eastern European history, though at the same time its existence provides a sliver of hope for Russians to find a native-born model of governance in their history for the reformation of their current model. One less corrupt and autocratic. It would be pretty cool to see the Veche system have some sort of resurgance. In some crazy (and extremely unlikely) scenario where St. Petersburg decides enough is enough and the Northwest decides to go along with it, we might see some Novgorod revivalism brought into the aesthetics/rhetoric of this new theoretical state.

Russian Russians need to emphasize the fact that it is not the first year that "we are at war with the mirror," that is, "some Russians are killing other Russians."

I obviously want the war to be over but I understand that these talks are a dud. At least in the nearest foreseeable future.

A few details:
There were no handshakes this time. And Russian representative (that slimy cunt Medinski) had already told the journos during break that Russian side gave Ukrainian side note of protest with all the videos of Russian POWs getting tortured. To which Ukrainian side replied that they will seriously look into it and that perpetrators will get punished accordingly. And Medinski added something along the lines of "it depends on who finds them first".

Ukraine will lose a war of attrition but some kind of peace deal will happen relatively soon as nobody except maybe some factions of the US want that war.

The following information is completely unsubstantiated - I got it from Telegram channels, so it may very well be a bunch of baloney - but some armchair analysts are saying Russian Ministry of Defense stopped the advance because the negotiations have progressed significantly and that there is no need to upset the emerging fragile consensus with potential big time fuck-ups.

This smells suspiciously like copium to me though.

Doesn't really make sense, you usually want to push as much as you can before negotiations conclude. Unless Zelensky really could flip back into at least a partially neutral position. But then what happens with the Donbass republics? I don't know.

Russia has objectively lost the infowar and now critical official sources are not helping.

I have just read the results of negotiations in Byzantium and it seems that Russia had to signicifantly cut its apetite. Actually I fail to understand why they had to kill thousands of Ivans to to achive THAT kind of lowlvl shit:

2) UA will go to EU, actually it was their goal in 2014 and it doesn't change
3) Countries guarantors including Russia (OMEGALUL) and what is the most important - Turkey. Turkey legimatly becomes Osman Empire again with a huge role in Eastern Europe. Erdo-kun won a fucking jackpot with that war
4) No war for Crimea during the next 15 years - OK, but no one planed to.
5) Hell knows what in LDNR, in other words - shithole remains a shithole, LDNR niggers remain LDNR niggers
6) No foreign bases in UA, there was none beforehand, see the point on NATO
7) No nukes for UA, but no one planned to lol

So Russia wins:
1) the most heavy sanctions are lifted (not all probably)
2) New territories for LDNR. Shoigu told that they are gonna lessen the presense near Kyiv and Chernigiv. That could mean two things - they actually failed at this war direction and finally saw that it's useless, or they again puke some bullshit or they throw more Ivans to LDNR to capture as much territories as possible. But the whole region is in ruins anyway, no one is going to rebuild Mariupol again.
3) Putin tells Russians that it's a big win, Kadyrov declares "die Endlosung der Azovfrage" => Russians continiue to happily live in their shithole
4) Much damage to UA, many Ukrainians killed => Putin personally is happy

Honestly, I don't quite believe that Putin would be ok with that sad list of achievements, the whole negotians thing seems to be just some bullshit before another hot phase of the war.

These are just the proposals of the Ukrainian side, not an agreed upon treaty. This round of negotiations aren't even over, they're continuing tomorrow.
