The idea behind the saucer-like shape is so it would not get tipped over by a nuclear blast. Paint job is, well, lacking. Some more details: https://nationalinterest.org/blog/t...most-heavy-tank-nato-would-have-dreaded-25342
With regards to the paint on that one in the video you posted, the red looks like it's just a primer. They likely had a lot of rust there and sandblasted all the rusted areas off and then put the primer on it to protect it until they had time to do a full repainting.

That makes two of us, because the last time it looked like this:

For integrity's sake I must reiterate some say the explosives were planted by his own people to fabricate the pretext for invasion to Chechnya. Reddit and Wikipedia firmly subscribe to this theory.
I saw that theory, and while I could definitely believe it, it's also something I have zero trouble believing the Chechens would do. I have been wondering how much differently the last 20 years would have gone if the Chechen war had started post 9/11, I think that us-russian relations might be a much different picture today had that happened.

Kadyrov seems to be lying again. He recently posted this picture from "the Ukraine". In the back you can see a Rosneft gas station but apparently Rosneft doesn't have any in the UH-kwaine. Maybe he is already on the way out or never was there. Judge for yourself.

I checked the Rosneft gas stations near the Ukranian boarder/at the sea of Azov in an autistic seizure. Apparently the next is in Rostow - around 3 hours away from the front line. So either he is already on the way home or didn't even left Grozny. No matter what it looks so hilarious with the LARP machine gun on friendly soil. Somebody is afraid to get popped it seems.

Just got in here this morning. My take, from what little I know...Russia's pulling back from Kyiv, maybe other cities in north, concentrating in southeast. Talks underway, this time apparently more substantial.

Observations. When compared with Russia's initial strategy of a quick decapitation strike, this is a loss for Russia. Their conventional forces have been shown to be inept. Military leadership model ineffective and highly dangerous to commanders. Logistics poor, morale among most troops not good. VDV utterly wasted. Russia must now deal with economic sanctions, which may or may not be relaxed with an agreement to end the war. Militaries and intelligence services all over collecting a bonanza of information re Russia. Russian conventional threat to NATO perceived as much weaker, but won't stop some measure of NATO buildup. Endemic graft and corruption will hamper any recovery within Russia's military. Ukraine won't join NATO but will get a lot of help rebuilding and rearming. Their defensive strategy has been rather successful. If the odds had been just a little more even the Ukes would have thrown the Russians out this time. Believe they will next time.

So depending on how this goes my Guess of this being Winter War was right except Russia wont be able to implement the lessons learned due to corruption and incomptence ?

Speaking of one-off tanks, the Ukrainian prototype of the T-72AG is heading to Russia. Nothing really that interesting, except it's full of imported electronics.

Russia had a lot of very interesting late WW2 and Cold War era tanks, but didn't really have the expertise to put them together properly like the IS-3s, or didn't realize that people had to somehow fit and not want to kill themselves inside the V-shaped hull like the Object 257s

NOT THE HECKING SANDNIGGERINOOS. But seriously, Ukrainian grain exports this year will be non-existant anyway, and we have banned grain exports ourselves.
It won't be classic regime change like in Iraq, more of the USSR collapse 2.0. Nukes are relatively well defended, their locations are known and they can be quickly put under joint custody (and that's what newly formed government will likely do, as Ukraine did in 1991, for example).
If scenario 2 is not enacted now, it will be enacted after scenario 1. But after scenario 1 you'd have war-torn country, possibly with NATO or Chinese occupational forces within its borders (as a result of devastating defeat), with much less intact infrastructure and industrial capacity, DPRK-tier economy and shittier human capital. Good luck fixing that.

You don't know shit where they're located and you don't have the capabilities to capture them (you'll have to start WW3 to do that) and remember that they'll use them if Russian statehood is threatened. (they'll know from the start that you funded and armed those insurgents)

Your only option is to start WW3 and hope for dear life that nukes don't start flying.

This is why your plan is so shit.

I've read a rumor that Putin was giving Macron his historical perspective and Macron just outright denied Ukraine having nazis and inadvertently called Putin delusional.

Jesus fucking Christ if The reason Macron is constantly talking with Putin is because he gave Putin the impression Ukraine Nazis are fully west supported even beyond realpolitik, that would explain why he is constantly trying to talk to him.

IS-3 was developed during wartime with limited resources, all things considered it wasn't a bad design for its time. It ended up being the main design that all Soviet cold war tanks drew inspiration from, can see it from the lines. The main thing that killed it off was a change in doctrine, it was built to fight German tanks, not wage war in a post-nuclear Europe. And yeah, they had a lot of crazy prototypes for tanks, that was kind of a hallmark. My favorite was the flying tank one, the A-40.

My headcanon is he is doing this to taunt Putin like the eseemed shitposters on this board.

- "Mariupol still stands!"
- "Your advance has stalled, your tanks have ran out of gas and your generals are incompetent!"
- "Your latest military tech is already on the way to Washington!"
- "Russia must be partitioned for its own good!"

...You get the idea. That's why Putin is losing hair and bloating up. Must be because of all the bile, and not taking the calls is not an option, Macron is a president.

The better comparison would be the US Federal government collapsing and all the native American tribes deciding they want to pick up tribal warfare again, but instead of going after whitey, they go after each other.
True true.

I find the parallels between the Wild West and that part of Eurasia fascinating.

That or Macron has a man crush on putin and is desperate for his attention.

Honestly I suspect it was pretty similar to this during the red scare of the 20s, and in the 50s when HUAC was going on.
They were certainly paranoid about commies and internal spies, but you didn't see people advocating for hot war with the Soviets, nuclear war be damned.

There was always a healthy dose of respect for the opponents' military capability and basic capacity for self-preservation, which seems to have very alarmingly evaporated.
