Before: "we'll take Grozny with one regiment in 24 hours", "we'll take Kiev in 3 days".
After: "Мама, приезжай и меня забери"
That's precisely the reason why Russia will balkanize. Необучаемость.
Can say the same thing about America right now. Except American society is a lot more divided. Russians just hate Moscow for the most part, not their neighbors who just happen to have a slightly different political opinion.

I'd say chances of balkanization in either country are similar, it's not really likely for either Russia or America for now.

We did have one poster mention a few days back that some of the Asian areas did have some desire to be their own nations, but recognize that if they did it now they'd probably just be gobbled up by China. No clue how accurate that is though.

My prediction is:
  • Russia gets Donbas and Luhansk so Russia has some buffor between Ukraine and Putin can save face instead admitting that Special Operation was total failure
  • They work on some agreement like Crimea is for 20 years Russian and then Ukrainian or anything like that so both sides can have their wins on that department
  • Gazprom still will sell of gas to EU, but bit less than before just to keep some resemblance of economic safety
  • All frozen Russian account will be unfrozen
  • Shitload of investment pour to Ukraine in order to rebuild it
  • All in time so they can plant seeds and avoid humanitarian catastrophe in Africa
  • Putin will stay in power and Russian will swallow all the propaganda about victory

It could be interesting to see the possible outcomes for Zelensky.

If Russian alt-history taught me anything, they are STILL butthurt that Britain made their empire look fake and gay, alienated the Soviet Union from interacting with the West for a good two decades, and still, after all those factory and mine closures and all the other post-war havoc that hit Britain, it's still a better and more livable place than the best Russian areas.

Still, the eternal anglo might be the biggest historical villain out there

The US still have mechanisms of channeling dissent and isn't about to lose 10-20% of its GDP.
Do you know who hate Moscow more than regular proles? Governors and regional elites. And if sanctions are not lifted, these elites are about to lose a shit ton of money.

There's a whole cryptocolonialism theory, in which Britain uses USSR as its nuclear platform to fight a proxy war with USA. This theory have spawned ResFed (Resource Federation) concept in which large European countries (Firms) have total control over Russian economy and the entire purpose of ResFed is to transfer resources AND money to the Firms. Current events are controlled bankruptcy of ResFed by the Firms (they've designed ResFed economy with multiple killswitches and now they're triggering them). I like ResFed theory because it infuriates so many people.

What mechanisms? Last time the US tried playing at dissent was Jan 6th. Don't think that channeled anything anywhere, just made people more divided.

As for the regional oligarchs and similar servants of the people, well, they'll have a lot more to lose by trying to secede than just their money. That's just the facts of it, and it applies to any major nation including the US. Any serious talk of states trying to secede will get that shit violently shut down by the Biden admin quicker than you can say "а у них негров линчуют."

Seeing the state of ""modern"" London may make you reconsider that statement.

Just a reminder that while the Ukrainian soldiers are out committing war crimes against defenseless POWs, the brave soldiers of the DPR are just out having a good time with their bros. Make war, not war crimes 🇷🇺 ✊ 🇺🇦.
