#Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

YBZ just uploaded a video and goes on a boomer tangent about GI JOE, Facebook etc, then throws this comment that sounds like a jab:

I found civilian friendships to be very shallow. They talk about parasocial relationships, online that you know this person, we are firends. Not really.
And even in real life, with civilians, we like hang out. We go to bars together and barbeques. Are you gonna die for me. Its a real step down.
(relistened to it and it may ba Larry Hama quote, but you can never be sure with YBZ)

Zacks weird boner for comradery will never cease to amaze me. I wasn't in the military, but I know a lot of military guys and even the hardcore guys never glorify it the way he does.

I don't think it was a dig, I'm pretty sure he's said similar things in the past.

(relistened to it and it may ba Larry Hama quote, but you can never be sure with YBZ)

Negative. YBZ has espoused this idea before - that after being a soldier in combat or whatever he has trouble identifying civilians as friends because it seems too shallow compared to his soldier friendships.

Of course this is mostly a cope. YBZ has plenty of opportunities to make friends online and offline - he's just too autistic and scared of people do it.

It's also a self criticism he isn't aware he's making of himself. There are people, Frog being one example, who would be his friend, and tried to do everything they could to ensure his success in his endeavors while basically getting nothing back from YBZ at all. It's YBZ constantly turning his back on Frog, not communicating with Frog, and seemingly doing his best to separate from anything Frog does that makes it impossible for them to be friends. YBZ makes friendship impossible because he doesn't understand how to be anyone's friend who isn't shooting an m4 beside him.

From Frog's perspective he knows YBZ is basically a barely functioning contrarian autist who wandered into comic books and with a bunch of accidental audience building and the circumstances of the mainstream backlash to his videos, massively succeeded. He knows YBZ is going to do unexplainable silly shit constantly, because YBZ is not actually capable of being Frog's friend. He doesn't have the emotional capacity to do it even if he wanted. YBZ admits this often like the above quote. EVS would have carry his unconscious body out of a burning building or something to earn YBZ's unattainable friendship.

The question is how many times YBZ is going to shit on Frog before Frog learns the lessons he got from smiller, dirtworm, etc that no matter how much you want to help a guy if they don't want your help, there's nothing you can do and maybe its time to move on and let him sabotage himself instead of constantly falling on your own face to save someone who is trying as hard as they can to fuck their life over.

How many times will Frog stick his hand in the fire and get burned by autists who got what they wanted out of him and aren't mentally capable of friendship.

on this last stream YBZ was texting/emailing with Frog and asked him to do something (what isn't clear) and Frog asked him to come on for 15 minutes, to which YBZ replied that 'this isn't quid pro quo'. Of course its fucking not - if it was YBZ wouldn't have the audacity to ask Frog to do anything for him, since he's not doing anything for frog except fucking the dog.

CG didn't leave YBZ - YBZ left CG, so he could go work a 9-5 and ride a disgusting subway. Let the man take the retirement he so craves. He's an old dude trying to get back into tech - he's going nowhere.

It seems obvious Zack has some pretty serious mental issues. He's willing to literally sacrifice his life for his real friends in combat but following through with the Waid lawsuit after that guy ruined his life was just a bridge too far? Too stressful for him?

Has anyone done a deep dive on his real military history? After the "high-level IT certifications" BS and general shadiness in the overall space I don't trust anyone or anything in CG any more.

Wasn't Zack an older recruit too? How many deep friendships could he have possibly made in all of his years in the service?

@FROG nobody is bummered about Zack "quiting" because, as you have said, he has no consistency.
I sit here and think what "could have been" with Jawbreakers. A book that a lot of people seemed to genuinely like. What heights could that it achieved if it became an entire franchise?

Ultimately, you're right though. Fundamentally, there's two Zacks. Nobody is sorry to see post-lawsuit Zack go, and it's more than a bit late to get upset with the death of pre-lawsuit Zack.

That's not true. It's like saying without Metokur there wouldn't be GG or without Nerdrotic there's no Fandom Menace. The incipient events leading to CG happened without Meyer.
GG happened because Zoe Quinn is a whore. Metokur came in as a result of the controversy. Metokur will tell you he never wanted to be the leader, and never considered himself such. He just had the loudest microphone. So I dunno if anybody can say Metokur was the leader of GG in the same vein that YBZ and FROG have been with CG. There's a whole autistic argument between Jim and Sargon about the "leadership of GG" that was a big deal years ago.

Certainly Metokur never shilled like YBZ or FROG. Indeed, he walked away from GG because people kept trying to use it to grift money. They really are two entirely different movements. GG was a critical movement, where the only product is bitching about "ethics in game journalism." Nobody was supposed to get rich off it. CG, on the other hand, is a separatist movement that necessitates a product and a lot of shilling of said product.

Zacks weird boner for comradery will never cease to amaze me. I wasn't in the military, but I know a lot of military guys and even the hardcore guys never glorify it the way he does.
Yeah, most of the people I know who were in the military were happy as pigs in shit to finally ETS.

Now, to be sure , there ARE people that have the "lifer" mentality. People who go on to me senior NCOs and whatnot. But if that's Zack's mentality, he should have probably stayed in instead of just doing a single four year enlistment contract (though he did do a stint in the Army National Guard afterwards).

Maybe he explains it here, but I'm not gonna pay $26 to find out. I think @5t3n0g0ph3r might have read it.

He's willing to literally sacrifice his life for his real friends but following through with the Waid lawsuit after that guy ruined his life was just a bridge too far?
Waid didn't really ruin his life though. He had options. AP wasn't a make it or break it opportunity.

What ruined his reputation (if not his life) is that he sued Waid and then cucked out. If he was gonna do that, he shouldn't have even bothered in the first place.

As shitty as Waid is, Zack screwed Zack here.

Wasn't Zack an older recruit too?
Yes. He enlisted at 26. The age cutoff for enlistment in the Marines is 28 (or at least it is now).

I agree with Frog not doing anything for Zack for free. He considers Zack a friend but, its plain to see that Zack doesn’t really feel the same way and only comes to Frog when he needs him. Now while the same could be said for the rest of CG, the fact that Zack won’t even spare fifteen minutes to get on Frog’s show makes it painfully obvious.

As someone who has the book and read it, I can tell you he HATED most lifers he came across.
Most of the ones he encountered were utter asshats or were sedentary in their thinking that they were incompetent.
I think what really broke the camel's back was that those above him did the bare minimum in dealing with a skizcow that Meyer had the unfortunate circumstance of serving alongside. No one in Meyer's unit liked that guy because of the instability the skizo brought.
Can't blame Meyer for feeling a sigh of relief when he entered civilian life, again.
Yes. He enlisted at 26. The age cutoff for enlistment in the Marines is 28 (or at least it is now).
Actually, when Meyer was in boot (and afterward), he was called Grandpa Meyer because he was the oldest enlistee there.

Zack should write a book about comicsgate next.

Eight in the Gate we'll call it

Can't blame Meyer for feeling a sigh of relief when he entered civilian life, again.
Which is funny, I went back to the site you posted back in 19 where he posted about his book and checked out his other posts and it seems he tried getting back into the Corps in 2010.

It's weird because Zack is like a lifer in that he still gets a near regulation haircut long after getting out and uses his time in service as his frame of reference for almost everything.

YBZ isn't doing this because he imagines himself still a soldier, he does it because he doesn't trust barbers since his nazi haircut on TV thing. YBZ is simple. He talks things up to be more complex than he actually is.

And how many desperate crowd funders out there would give their left nuts to go on Frog's show for 15 fucking minutes and have their books, often representing lifelong dreams funded? Zack just pisses me off on principle.

I think we should have paid more attention to Zach's relationships with women as a harbinger of things to come. I've known people like this, with this type of personality - military or not. They will ALWAYS disappoint you. They ALWAYS burn bridges and live like friendless nomads.

To me CG is a great example of a modern Marxist movement: the people taking the means of productions away from multinationals and into their own hands. And it leads down to the same issues Marxism had.
Meanwhile, the SJWs represent the late stage capitalism or neoliberalist side of producing comics and have also hit the main problems that neoliberal capitalism faces

Maybe YBZ is more Lenin than Trotsky (TFM is more Trotksist imho) but @FROG is the Stalin of CG.

PS: And what drives me crazy with Basedtubers is that they claim: "SJWs believe that if you are to the left of Stalin you are a nazi" while in fact, when it comes to the US, everyone to the left of Hitler is a filthy commie and some of the things they are outraged about (like, say, affordable healthcare) only far-right European parties would dare consider limiting.

This is really shit tier analysis claiming entrepreneurialism, something that is essential to capitalism, is somehow "seizing the means of production".

LOL that is all.

Nah, he's been getting that shit done for a while.

He did this video for his The Frozen Chosin Kickstarter campaign back in 2014.

Between that haircut and the color of that shirt, it almost looks like he's still active duty. And this was 4 years before the Jim Jefferies thing.
It isn't so much that YBZ is simple, he's also incredibly cheap and he chose the cheapest possible place to get a haircut and they still managed to fuck up the same easy haircut almost every WW2 vet got until the day they died. I remember EVS ribbing him about the haircut and Zack's response was, "yeah but I ended up getting it for free".

A longer than normal autistic spergathon on my part to commemorate the official end of YBZ CG.

Zack is just out of ammo and throwing empty guns. He cries about unconditional love but he wouldn't die for anyone in CG, nor should that be a problem. Mr. Meyer has a lot of pride in owning his accomplishments without much help from anyone else. He certainly respected Sciverfrog's abilities but he probably views accepting help and/or advice from EVS as taking away from his own story and up until his biggest failure in giving upon the Waid lawsuit, I'd be inclined to agree. Zack was absolutely the heart of what made all this fun to watch. Sciverfrog initially brought a sense of big time talent to it all, but that impression has been replaced by the fact that he's really just a glorified cover artist whose only virtue is knowing how to position spergs around himself for maximum personal benefit. Very useful in the YouTube age, but it's a remnant of growing up in a broken home and it perpetuates a vicious cycle with every single one of his designated "friends."

But beyond anything Sciverfrog or his dumbass Wart Crampain could have done, it was Zack's great capitulation to Waid that did in CG. That alone seemed to go against everything we thought we knew about him. Not only did he forfeit the right to call out the single biggest bully on the establishment side, he threw away the donations of those who had intended for him to fight to the end with that bastard. That's when the core of what allowed Sciverfrog's CG to sweep the niche nation truly died. We wanted to see how far this David could go. He had knocked Goliath senseless but he stopped short of cutting his head off and shook hands and promised never to talk about him anymore. Then there was the onslaught of all these dopey google news keyword comics and the disastrous KMart Bisexual Light special. He could have gone back to Jawbreakers if he really wanted to. These are comic book characters, they get resurrected all the time in millions of different ways.

I don't think it was a matter of running out of ideas as much as it was readjusting his own self image. It seems like the success really got to his head and suddenly what he thought he was about wasn't good enough. Then when people reacted poorly to his bad moves, he really started to withdraw. I seem to recall this started to happen right around the time he decided to do an interview with a guy who was obviously looking to do a hatchet job on him instead of say, Joe Rogan. It might have been the first time Richard was the subject of a meme. That can be tough, but for a vet like him I thought he would get over it. Now I don't think he ever has. Apparently, war in the Middle East and war with Mark Waid didn't leave him feeling as exposed as much as the internet community did. He knows he can't rely on internet personalities to shield him so the only way out is to withdraw. So he we are and his regression is nearly complete.

All that remains is what came before: independent creators with something to prove and Scivergate with a solar system consisting of mostly asteroid belts but only a few planets.

TLDR: The big names will always be big names and people will always buy their comics. Big guys can talk smack and take the punches financially. If you're a little guy that likes to talk smack and can't afford to get sued, stay out. If you're starting out in comics, be prepared to be someone else's soap dish until you make it big. Deviate from this and you shall be buck broken in more ways than one.

Prompted by the Smith/Rock Oscars slap and commemorating a year ago this very week since the Zack Snyder incident, Gary from Nerdrotic / FNT would like to remind us all that the entire affair was "much, much, much overblown" and that all the subsequent recriminations and accusations of cucking in the face of Hollywood - which are well documented in this very thread having been spearheaded by our very own @FROG - were then and are now an "absolutely overblown narrative."

You see, lest you forget, there was a charity going on. A charity, guys. It was a charity. Never forget. They sat there are took it like spanked children for a good fucking reason. Suicide prevention. Nevermind that a major contributing factor for suicide is internalized shame and anger directed inwards. When it's a good cause, you stay silent so no reason for any of that shit here. A charity, guys. It was a charity. Never doubt Jeremy Grigg's leadership. Fuck that noise. They aren't pussies who completely choked when they had their one shot to make good on a key pillar of their movement ("Without Respect We Reject") and then were left looking like bitches by Jeremy. No, they were better than Zack Snyder that day. They put charity before integrity.

P.S. Could someone give me the QRD on Fandom Menace thread? Should I even bother considering the movement itself is now defunct and the thread appears to never be leaving PG.

True.
But I'll also argue that when you are @FROG and your "friends" like Gail, Doug, Mike, Gary, Zack, WC etc turn against you, you are probably the problem, not them.

What EVS does is he creates a court of sycophants and acts like the king of the castle and probably gets on the nerves of anyone who is somewhat equal to him and this is something that annoys me (and probably a lot of his a-logs). You are either a Toad McFarlane's toady or you are his enemy when all else is said and done. In the interim phase @FROG is just trying to win you over.

The 15 minutes thing is a great example:
YBZ has said, repeatedly, he does not like livestreams. Often in stream-of-conscious videos or his community page subtweets. It may even be that he is afraid he will say something that he should not about a certain lawsuit because he is a scatterbrain.
I can imagine EVS heckling him to go on his show constantly and this driving a wedge between them.

We are witnessing two immature men having an inevitable fallout. But this is internet friendships for you.

As for YBZ, he gives me the impression that he has the mentality of doing his tour and moving on all through his life (including his children FFS).
He lived his GI JOE fantasy, he lived his comic artist fantasy, now he is probably trying to live his Cosmopolitan man of culture fantasy. Maybe doing so will kick his "Theosophy" book ideas away

Comics had been the one constant thing in his life but he was saying early on: "I'll probably do this for five years" and "by 2022 comics culture war would be over" and turns out he was right about it.

We don't know about the lolsuit probably because he is obliged not to talk about it (and, wierdly, does a great job at it despite being Zack.
But he has said again and again that a war is not about constantly fighting but focusing on specific targets.

I do believe that him dropping the lawsuit was part of this, it had achieved its target or was not going anywhere else. It did a lot to detter broke SJWs for a couple critical years.
I am really curious to see what will come out if the NDA has an expiry date.

P.S. Could someone give me the QRD on Fandom Menace thread? Should I even bother considering the movement itself is now defunct and the thread appears to never be leaving PG.
It's stillborn because the OP sucks. Nobody can figure out why or how they're cows just from reading the OP. A bad OP will consign any thread to PG purgatory indefinitely. I think @LoZza either needs to greatly expand it, or let somebody else have a shot. There did seem to be be general agreement further on in the thread that Mecharandom42 is a lolcow.

Compare to the Dean and Vikki thread, which apparently sailed through PG in like 72 hours because a great deal of the tard cum was properly archived, indexed, and front-loaded in the OP.

Has anyone done a deep dive on his real military history? After the "high-level IT certifications" BS and general shadiness in the overall space I don't trust anyone or anything in CG any more.
They're two entirely different things. His military service was in combat arms, and the IT shit apparently stems from a B.S. he earned while he was part-time in the ANG. I don't think he did comp sci stuff in the military.

I find his claims plausible. I mean, the Montgomery GI Bill will pay for your college education, and there's really no private sector equivalent to "0331 Machine Gunner." He would have HAD to do something completely different in civilian life.

It'll tell you this: I believe Meyer's claims a HELL of a lot more than I believe @Spectre_06's. Which included ridiculous shit like him holding the rank of Captain for about 10 years, and going to the Pentagon to confer with General Mattis. I think if Meyer were stolen valor, he would have gotten popped a long time ago. He wrote a book, that was actually published, under his legal name, that has names, dates, places, units, etc. If he were lying, that would be ballsy as hell.

We certainly know Michelle Perez believes in his military service. LOL.

EDIT: Punctuation.
