Nobody ever told me I could have been a girl. I've had girl friends all my life. My best friend growing up was a girl. Being online is actually what shifted my friend pool to being more male weighted. I won't deny the "cooties" thing is real but most friendships are about shared interests and can surpass gender barriers and this has been the case for an incredibly long time. The 1990s were not a dark age of intolerance for children playing with others across gender lines.
