He probably hasn't explained it too well, bit this crypto donation is what's been ruining his life more than anything else. Him receiving a large sum of money then getting really involved in stop the steal, and by extension Jan 6th, led to feds assuming he got paid to start an insurrection. That's the main thrust of the federal investigation, his comments about Jan 6th just sealed the deal.
