US Army Reducing Its Numbers in Face of Recruiting Difficulties - The Army this week admitted it was having problems recruiting and announced a reduction in its numbers for fiscal year 2022 and 2023.

The Army this week admitted it was having problems recruiting and announced an unprecedented reduction in its numbers that would shrink the active duty Army to its smallest size since World War II.

“We’re facing, obviously, some challenging conditions in terms of our ability to recruit and attract talent,” Under Secretary of the Army Gabe Camarillo said at a press conference on Monday.

Camarillo blamed a “very tight labor market” for the Army’s recruiting woes.

“What we’re just seeing is given the particular conditions of a very tight labor market, our ability to meet all of our projected recruiting goals were a little bit challenged in FY ’22 and FY ’23,” he said.

Camarillo said the Army’s end strength, or total number of forces, would go from 485,000 soldiers currently to 476,000 in fiscal year 2022, which ends in September, and further down to 473,000 in fiscal year 2023.

He said the Army decided on reducing its recruitment goals instead of lowering standards.

“We made the assessment that we would not want to adjust our specific criteria for quality,” he said. “And so, we made the decision to just temporarily reduce end strength, as opposed to lowering our standards.”

He added that the Army hoped to build back its numbers over the next five years.

“We don’t anticipate that it is a lasting change,” Camarillo said. “It is something that we hope to bring back up over the course of the fight up. And it’s something that we certainly think is reflective of what we hope to be transient conditions in the labor market.”

Retired Army Lt. Gen. Thomas Spoehr, director of the Heritage Foundation’s Center for National Defense, called the situation unprecedented.

“The Army has not faced such recruiting headwinds in the last 30 years. I am unaware of a situation where the Army has cut its end strength in response to a negative recruiting outlook,” he said.

Spoehr also attributed the decision to the Biden Administration keeping the Army budget below inflation.

“If the Biden administration was not holding the Army’s budget below the level of inflation, I am not sure they would have had to resort to cutting their end strength,” he said.

The reduction would bring the Army to its smallest since 1940, according to Military Times.

Spoehr said the Army’s decision would make units less capable:
The Army has said that rather than reduce the number of units, they will instead man units at a lower level. So, the Army’s companies and battalions, rather than being manned at say 95-100%, with this end strength cut, the Army may only be able to fill them to a 90% level. That means less capable units.
The recruiting difficulties come as the Army has begun discharging soldiers not complying with the Biden administration’s coronavirus vaccine mandate. More than 4,000 requested a religious exemption, but only two were granted, according to recent Army statistics. An additional 2,735 soldiers have refused.

The difficulties are also despite the Army last year launching animated recruitment advertisements that highlighted women, minorities, immigrants, and the LGBT community, as previously reported by Breitbart News.

Spoehr called the Army’s recruiting difficulties “a perfect storm, all hitting in 2022.”

First, he said fewer and fewer individuals even qualify to enlist. He said:
The biggest disqualifying factors are obesity, fitness and mental health issues. This should not come as a surprise. Obesity in America, including among youth, continues to increase. More and more youth are being treated for mental health issues and being prescribed psychotropic drugs for treatment. Current numbers coming out of the Pentagon are that the percentage of individuals qualified to enlist without a waiver has dropped from 29% in 2016 to less than 25% in 2022.
Second, he said fewer and fewer individuals are interested in joining the military, also in part thanks to the Biden administration’s botched Afghanistan withdrawal:
There are economic reasons for this, many companies are now offering more generous compensation packages that include college tuition to graduating high school seniors. There are lots of jobs available now. And over time American society has placed less and less value on the idea of public service. The disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan has also caused some to question our military and their competence.
Finally, he cited the perception that the military is becoming “woke.”

“There is a sense among the American public that the military is becoming increasingly political and that topics such as race and gender equity, critical race theory, and wokeism in general are commanding more attention, at the cost of readiness,” he said.

Public polls have backed up that assessment. Earlier this year, a Gallup poll showed that the public image of military leaders’ ethics has dropped, particularly among Republicans, and a Ronald Reagan Institute poll last year showed that high confidence in the military has declined. Among those with little or not much confidence in the military, the most common answer was “political leadership.”

Spoehr added: “I should note that it is my assessment that for the first time ever, it may turn out that none of the military services will make their recruiting goals for 2022. The Air Force in particular is sounding the alarm.”

Nobody in their right mind wants to die for globohomo agenda, simple as that.

I am Overjoyed that the Great Satan is losing its ability to bully the world into submission.

The causes of this are multitude from Americans being too fat, weak, sick, stupid and or insane (and only getting fatter, weaker, sicker, stupider and insane) or a general sense of Anti-Militarism that is present in the growing Lefist sentiment amongst the Youth. I can only speculate what the State of the American Military will be by 2030 when at the most conservative estimates say that 42% of Americans will be Obese (the study that said this was put out in 2012) but I personally would put it to 60-75%. Drones, Super SOF with IVAS HUDs, NGSW Super Guns with Aimbot scopes and ENVG Thermal/NV Fusion goggles and Illiterate Mexicans who murder each other as a result of On-base drug trade will not win wars.
I found the foreign shill, where do I put it?

Don't pretend other countries don't have major problems with their societies either, America is not the only country getting fatter, China is catching up & I hear they have severe problems with diabetes. This goes for all countries, it's only a matter of time before hot dog eating contests are added to the Olympics.

Then there's Russian military "might" which is currently being reduced to a nub as we speak. China's military is a joke the likes of which make Russia blush even to this very moment.

Their response is going to be ramp up recruitment drives on everything but white males.
I'm convinced that a slip in the ol' reliable demographic since WW2 has led to them terrified of that drying up which has incidentally led to it drying up even faster.

Even high school kids are aware of the gay briefings that everyone in the DoD sits through. That is a problem.

Oh the chinks are fucked too because of an impending demographic collapse, the possibility of an incel rebellion, little emperor syndrome, becoming westernized and not having fought a war for 43 years. But China does not praise Autogynephiles and Sodomites and appoint them to positions in my government, The US of AIDS does that all by itself.

They'll do another 9/11 at some point to rally people behind the government. It'll only work on the proles.
Pre-9/11 was a simpler time. We had the Cold War to unite us, the euphoric high from winning the Cold War, military commanders who knew better than to fuck around Kuwait for 20 years, and the most divisive issue in the country was what to do with a president who lied about getting his dick sucked.

Now everything is hyper-politicized. When the coof hit, we were too busy arguing over travel bans to ask ourselves if we should be housing sick people in nursing homes. When it came time to pull out of Afghanistan, our military was too busy getting woke to not embarrass America in front of the entire world. And when kids were getting raped in our schools, we were too busy arguing whether parents should have any say in what happens in their children’s classrooms.

Nothing short of a splitting atom is going to unite us like 9/11. And if that ever happens, Lord knows the dipshits in power won’t know what the fuck to do.

I'm guessing you're not American because that's not chiefly why Americans join the army, it's usually because it's family tradition, post-Highschool education, post-Highschool job or naïve WWI style adventurism. I'm sure there are some people who enter it for the honor but those people look to the nation's founding & not current-state politics.

No, the big reason Americans are hesitant to join the army is because it sucks for a multitude of reasons, wounded soldiers are treated like used tissues & veterans are ignored. Soldiers come back crippled and receiving token aid, and a lot of the time they're crippled due to demands of an incompetent CO and not because they were hit with an IED. The honor aspect is a formality that the president would rather not be doing, Biden made that much transparent.

Now on top of all this, put the "white people suck" cherry on the tippy-top of the shit sundae.

Who wants to join an organization that treats you like dirt, hates you, expects you to die for it & resents giving you a funeral?
Look at how returning soldiers were treated in Vietnam. Seems like there was once a certain amount of respect an honor allotted to being a soldier, but now there's none. You'll get shot at, carved up and see your friends die and your reward is coming home to be spat on and called baby killers while the politicians pretend you don't exist.

Exactly, I can't tell you all the callous ways people have dismissed veterans out of hand, "well it was their choice, they don't get to complain" and "veterans aren't really heroes at all."

I'm not even sure what to think of that. Yes, it was a choice in todays world, but what does it take to impress these types or earn their respect? They'd probably be the same people who watched the nukes spike torrents of water in the air during the pacific proving grounds and went "meh, wasn't impressive, the explosion just wasn't very big."

If soldiers are so worthless then I guess you don't really need them, enjoy the consequences of that scenario. I sure wouldn't want to be one.

Proto laptop class who kept themselves in the dark about what that president with doing outside the major city limits. Cause (s)he was sure as fuck hyper-politicized against the U.S. military, industry, and most importantly the U.S. Constitution.

That's what #IStandWithUkraine was to the US to the elite, but regular people didn't take that bait. More informed people asked, "Isn't that the country where Hunter Biden's laptop is linked to?" BLM-tards said that there were no black people there, so they don't care (I would have loved to see Wakandan larpers on the battlefield).

In general, I'm glad that the Army is having trouble recruiting because it means the US will have trouble enacting a neo-conservative policy. They're still free to pursue a neo-liberal policy of starting shit and expecting other people fight it for them, but one step at a time.

I think China's demographic collapse is overblown compared to the US, which has the same kind of problem. When two countries have the same kind of problem, it becomes a case of who can take more punishment. In China's case, let's assume their population contracts by ten percent, so they lose 100 million people. Devastating, but recoverable for them. In comparison, the US's 10% is 30 million; that would be our devastating, but recoverable. If America suddenly lost 100 million people from demographic decline, that's an extinction event, but if China lost 30 million... don't they get rid of that many dissidents in a decade? The US avoids the question of demographic decline by importing illegal immigrants, but as others in this thread pointed out, they're not that loyal to American values. It also doesn't help that American values themselves have been devalued worse than the Ruble.

Likewise, little emperor syndrome just sounds like American Karens and inceldom is still roughly equivalent in the US for entirely social (rather than biological) reasons. The US's clear advantage is having the most advanced military tech on the planet, but I make the Protoss comparison for a reason; that still doesn't stop them losing to attrition of any kind. And no, I am not saying the Chinese are the Zerg, that would be the Latin Americans and Africans.

I cannot remember the exact number but the Chinese are expected to have a population somewhere in the 800 Million range by 2100 barring a small nuclear war or bubonic plague style pandemic. Also Hispanics do not really solve the problem as they are fat and thus not fit for military service. What you say about attrition is true as well, there is a reason that the US, the greatest Military Power in the world with F35 Multi-role stealth fighters and 11 Aircraft carriers has not invaded Iran, because they would lose and lose horribly and would have done so even before Iran recruited hundreds of thousands of men across the ME in the form of proxy forces.

So 20% over 80 years, which is definitely bad, but can be mitigated in two generations. The US only has the same problem only because of weird social pressures rather than hard Malthusian limits like with China.

I remember hearing the story of one of these army vets (not US, British). Spent years in the army as a sniper. Shot a lot of people, saw a lot of shit he wish he didn't. Came back and the best he could do with his 20 years of service was get the job of a petrol pump attendant to support his family and kids. Dude went from having command over men and doing what he thought of as important, dangerous work, to being seen as fit to only pump petrol by society.

At least during those times, or even during the Bush years, the politicians put up a facade of care about their troops. Now you can see the lack of care seeping through their skin. There really isn't much now to fling themselves into the military unless they plan on becoming one of these careerists who conveniently avoid danger while climbing the ranks. They type of people responsible for the shambolic decisions, like Milly.
