Head of German chemical union says half his 600k members are in danger of losing their job if Russian gas is cut off

Head of BASF, operator of Germany's largest chemical plant, says he will be forced to lay off 40k workers if Russian natural gas is cut off

I'm sure German workers and business community are OK with being impoverished and going through the great depression again to keep Ukraine safe for US corruption
Call me when cutting off gas happens.
it wont happen

It's good that you took into account the difficulty of a frontal assault. One problem with the idea of starving out the Taiwanese though is that China itself would pay a steep price in sanctions. The strategy would be declared a war crime against civilians and China would become an international pariah like Russia has.

Japan and the US wouldn't necessarily have to launch a relief assault on Taiwan either, they could attempt to blockade Chinese trade instead. With no food imports and no product exports then China would be in a lot of trouble.

I don't see it happening. Xi doesn't feel under pressure to take big risks the way Putin does.
Yes, war is expensive. The CCP is very risk-averse. That's why they've tolerated the Taiwan situation, but that tolerance is calculated. If the elite class in China feels it's no longer profitable/sustainable to allow two Chinas to exist, they'll send the serfs to fight.

(btw I don't think there are any historical examples of a country massively increasing its naval strength - as China is doing - and not fighting. It's been that way since the first primitive human picked up the first club)

Putin was also an extremely conservative and cautious world leader, right up till he wasn't. Washington DC has been openly talking mad shit about "containing" China for over a decade now, the Chinks have no intention of cooperating with this and no longer maintain a facade of politeness about their ambitions.

Sanctions would hurt China (and its opponents) badly, but it's a mistake to assume they'll prevent or stop war, because they never have before. They have the means to conquer Taiwan, they can manufacture an opportunity at any time. All that's missing is the motive, and that comes down to intra-elite competition in Chinese society and how they view the relative risks and opportunities. It's not easy for gwailos to fully understand that part, because what's rational and important to a Western foreign policy analyst or Kiwi Farmer isn't necessarily the same as what matters to Xi and his peers and his international allies. Supposedly democratic Western governments do crazy things every day, autocracies can get in on that game too.

Putin said that he will cut off gas 1 april if EU wont pay in ruble. EU said they wont pay in ruble. He didnt cut off gas.

Do I need to say anything more? :story:

You need to actually read more than the headline, the contracts have 30 day payment terms so Russia won't consider the payments missed till roughly end of this month to mid next month depending on the specific contract.

France pays for their gas in Euros to a bank and that bank exchanges it with rubles and transfers the rubles to Russia.
So yeah, they can say that they pay in Euros for their gas.

This is also unnecessary, especially for girls.
The important difference is that Russian children are not involved in conflict, so compared to Ukrainian kids, the chances of them bombing some separatist babushka are quite small.
That actually makes it worse.
The Ukrainian kids are born into a conflict they don't even question because it's the way things have always been, meanwhile Russia benefits from the conflict while keeping their own children safe and teaching weapons handling for funsies.
It's like saying it's preferable to teach American kids military tactics because they won't hurt anyone while criticizing the Hamas summer camps as those trainees may hurt Israeli grandmas. Frankly, I find it disturbing. Because the American kids may never deploy to Israel but they'll finance their weapons purchases.
Being able to afford the gamification of war because you'll have others suffer on your behalf instead of your kids is not the own you think it is.

Kids at War is horrible. I agree with you on that. And not putting your own children in danger is not the own; it is a top priority. And failure to provide safety for them doesn't make people sympathize with the adults of these children, especially when it was entirely avoidable and was entirely ignored. It makes people concerned for children and angry at adults.

I would have agreed if Russia didn't have conscription.
Alas, we do.

Taiwan was always a sure stalemate tho, while loosing Ukraine would be a blow to Washington gargantuan ego its nothing they really need which is why they've been slowing down on the chickenhawkering as not enough people bought into the war.
Chips are something California can't make as good or fast as Taiwan tho so until the plans for mass producing chips in the USA gets to actual production you can count on the USA being way more willing to fight for Taiwan than Ukraine.
There are gargantuan chip manufacturers in Mexico now. I don’t think it would be too difficult to pivot away.

That's a proper word for how many feel.
Anyhow, you see all the colour revolutions going on and see that shit never changes for the best for regular people. Only top brass seems to change.
Makes you think.

I never voted for the guy.

But your question is way more loaded than I care to properly answer, sorry.

By the way, there are a couple of interesting namefags on Russian 4chong: two Ukrainians sitting in Ukraine right now and one Russian guy who fought in 2014 in Donbass. Russian guy went to volunteer again this Thursday.
He gave an explanation about what is considered theft on the battlefield.
All equipment and guns and sometimes pieces of clothing(esp. boots) are considered trophies and are free game.
Anything else, money, jewelry, phones, personal articles etc are a big no-no and are considered theft.

And those Ukrainian fellers report missiles flying above their heads just before any other source does.

If you're following the news and hearing about Ukrainian counter-attacks you'd have assumed that they've taken a significant amount of land back from Russia over the past few days. However the following image basically shows how pathetically small the advances on Russia have been. Every minor 'win' for Ukraine is going to result in their equipment being exposed to air attacks and heavy losses, unironically making it easier for Russia to reclaim it with another push.

So it seems that the next big battle will happen in Donbass region (Luhansk, Donetsk)
"Endless columns of the Russian second echelon. The troops go to the largest battlefield of our time - to the Donbass"
