US Army Reducing Its Numbers in Face of Recruiting Difficulties - The Army this week admitted it was having problems recruiting and announced a reduction in its numbers for fiscal year 2022 and 2023.

The Army this week admitted it was having problems recruiting and announced an unprecedented reduction in its numbers that would shrink the active duty Army to its smallest size since World War II.

“We’re facing, obviously, some challenging conditions in terms of our ability to recruit and attract talent,” Under Secretary of the Army Gabe Camarillo said at a press conference on Monday.

Camarillo blamed a “very tight labor market” for the Army’s recruiting woes.

“What we’re just seeing is given the particular conditions of a very tight labor market, our ability to meet all of our projected recruiting goals were a little bit challenged in FY ’22 and FY ’23,” he said.

Camarillo said the Army’s end strength, or total number of forces, would go from 485,000 soldiers currently to 476,000 in fiscal year 2022, which ends in September, and further down to 473,000 in fiscal year 2023.

He said the Army decided on reducing its recruitment goals instead of lowering standards.

“We made the assessment that we would not want to adjust our specific criteria for quality,” he said. “And so, we made the decision to just temporarily reduce end strength, as opposed to lowering our standards.”

He added that the Army hoped to build back its numbers over the next five years.

“We don’t anticipate that it is a lasting change,” Camarillo said. “It is something that we hope to bring back up over the course of the fight up. And it’s something that we certainly think is reflective of what we hope to be transient conditions in the labor market.”

Retired Army Lt. Gen. Thomas Spoehr, director of the Heritage Foundation’s Center for National Defense, called the situation unprecedented.

“The Army has not faced such recruiting headwinds in the last 30 years. I am unaware of a situation where the Army has cut its end strength in response to a negative recruiting outlook,” he said.

Spoehr also attributed the decision to the Biden Administration keeping the Army budget below inflation.

“If the Biden administration was not holding the Army’s budget below the level of inflation, I am not sure they would have had to resort to cutting their end strength,” he said.

The reduction would bring the Army to its smallest since 1940, according to Military Times.

Spoehr said the Army’s decision would make units less capable:
The Army has said that rather than reduce the number of units, they will instead man units at a lower level. So, the Army’s companies and battalions, rather than being manned at say 95-100%, with this end strength cut, the Army may only be able to fill them to a 90% level. That means less capable units.
The recruiting difficulties come as the Army has begun discharging soldiers not complying with the Biden administration’s coronavirus vaccine mandate. More than 4,000 requested a religious exemption, but only two were granted, according to recent Army statistics. An additional 2,735 soldiers have refused.

The difficulties are also despite the Army last year launching animated recruitment advertisements that highlighted women, minorities, immigrants, and the LGBT community, as previously reported by Breitbart News.

Spoehr called the Army’s recruiting difficulties “a perfect storm, all hitting in 2022.”

First, he said fewer and fewer individuals even qualify to enlist. He said:
The biggest disqualifying factors are obesity, fitness and mental health issues. This should not come as a surprise. Obesity in America, including among youth, continues to increase. More and more youth are being treated for mental health issues and being prescribed psychotropic drugs for treatment. Current numbers coming out of the Pentagon are that the percentage of individuals qualified to enlist without a waiver has dropped from 29% in 2016 to less than 25% in 2022.
Second, he said fewer and fewer individuals are interested in joining the military, also in part thanks to the Biden administration’s botched Afghanistan withdrawal:
There are economic reasons for this, many companies are now offering more generous compensation packages that include college tuition to graduating high school seniors. There are lots of jobs available now. And over time American society has placed less and less value on the idea of public service. The disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan has also caused some to question our military and their competence.
Finally, he cited the perception that the military is becoming “woke.”

“There is a sense among the American public that the military is becoming increasingly political and that topics such as race and gender equity, critical race theory, and wokeism in general are commanding more attention, at the cost of readiness,” he said.

Public polls have backed up that assessment. Earlier this year, a Gallup poll showed that the public image of military leaders’ ethics has dropped, particularly among Republicans, and a Ronald Reagan Institute poll last year showed that high confidence in the military has declined. Among those with little or not much confidence in the military, the most common answer was “political leadership.”

Spoehr added: “I should note that it is my assessment that for the first time ever, it may turn out that none of the military services will make their recruiting goals for 2022. The Air Force in particular is sounding the alarm.”

Nobody in their right mind wants to die for globohomo agenda, simple as that.

"Despite". Tell me you don't know anything about the demographics that make up the military without telling me, etcetera.

Over the last two years we've answered a lot of "How long can this go on?" type questions, and the pozzing of the military is one of them. This shit has been endemic for years; I got out in 2006-- Fucking sixteen years Jesus Christ where's my Metamucil-- and they were already leaning into racial shit. For anyone who doesn't know: The military has EO (Equal Opportunity, AKA Race Commissar) NCOs. They're black. They're usually racist fuckheads.

The other thing is that blacks usually don't join combat arms. They usually focus on softer, more career-type MOSs, admin, supply, things like that. Nothing wrong with that, someone has to count gas mask filters and shit, but the point is they're aiming their recruiting ads at people who usually don't sign up to do actual fighting stuff-- see also women. Yes, women are allowed in combat jobs but from what I hear almost none of them are, for obvious reasons.

The vast majority of the infantry is 18-25 year old white and hispanic males. Neither of those groups is going to be attracted to your cause by you talking about how down with shemales you are, or how awesome black people are-- Especially the Mexicans and poor who grew up in shit neighborhoods rubbing fists with the black kids and don't like them.

It's been that way for a long time.

Back when I was an E-2 I made the mistake of going to EO over a black NCO calling me a white trash sister fucking cracker bastard.

Yeah, nothing fucking happened. I got told that I just needed to deal with it and EO wasn't there to handle my feelings.

An E-4 I knew went to EO because a black NCO called him a rice picking gook. Nothing happened.

A couple years later, when I was a squad leader, I had an E-1 go in bitching I passed her over for promotion because she was black and EO investigated it. Didn't matter that she had a shit-ton of bad counseling statements and was written up by other NCO's, no no, she should have gotten the promotion over the white guy who busted his ass.

They promoted her, over my objections because she was a lazy piece of shit, even though we didn't have the slots for it and she strutted around like she was big shit.

Fucking EO was a joke 30 years ago, make no mistake, and is actually the reason a lot of people get disillusioned with the military.

Black guys can have black power banners, africa flags and medallions, shit like that.

I had a black officer mistake the flag on the cover of The Trooper album that was on one of those big silk screens.

He honestly thought, very vocally in front of a bunch of us, that the Union Jack was the Confederate flag and he was convinced I was a racist.

Not gonna lie...I've actively started to not encourage people to join the military. The last brush with military life I had, well, lets just say the Ike's crew is a sinking ship weighted down by wokeness. Others in my family have started to see the changes as well and they are all racing to retire before years of their service are erased by some 18 year old leftist with a stick up their ass takes it all away.

I am Overjoyed that the Great Satan is losing its ability to bully the world into submission.
The problem is who takes their place. You want a Chinese world? A Russian world? A globohomo world? Thems your choices. None are great.
America as a concept is a great country. Americans who still believe in their founding ideals and constitution are great people. America is under attack and faltering after decades of infiltration from communist and outside forces - the idea of ‘spreading freedom’ (ie gay sex and liberalism) has been a disaster for them
. If / when the USA falls or balkanises there will be chaos. Now a multipolar power structure may be the best we can hope for. I don’t like where America is going right now, but I like china even less, and what the globalists want from us is hellish.

Did you server during the civil war or some shit? E-1 to E-2 should just be time in grade. I've never heard of the Army having a cap on how may mosquito wings are allowed to buzz around. Maybe you were a Marine or something, I dunno.

I'm guessing you're not American because that's not chiefly why Americans join the army, it's usually because it's family tradition, post-Highschool education, post-Highschool job or naïve WWI style adventurism. I'm sure there are some people who enter it for the honor but those people look to the nation's founding & not current-state politics.

No, the big reason Americans are hesitant to join the army is because it sucks for a multitude of reasons, wounded soldiers are treated like used tissues & veterans are ignored. Soldiers come back crippled and receiving token aid, and a lot of the time they're crippled due to demands of an incompetent CO and not because they were hit with an IED. The honor aspect is a formality that the president would rather not be doing, Biden made that much transparent.

Now on top of all this, put the "white people suck" cherry on the tippy-top of the shit sundae.

Who wants to join an organization that treats you like dirt, hates you, expects you to die for it & resents giving you a funeral?

This. Even unwounded young troops are treated like children, from personal experience.

Going to go back many years. During the last assignment as an associate dean at the Defense Language Institute, saw and heard of the way these language students, many in the mid 20s with college degrees, were treated. In addition to learning some of the most difficult languages in the world, these students had military training, physical training, and were pressured to volunteer downtown, plus other bullshit. When most of these students graduated, after as many as 63 weeks of training, they left hating the military, with absolutely no desire to re-enlist. Am sure most completed their enlistments and departed, even in the face of possible re-enlistment bonuses. Have seen the bonuses, generally not enough to compensate for the bullshit. So the military overall has to plan for these linguists' replacements before these people even get to their first field assignments. In my case, even further back, finished my enlistment as a linguist and got out. Got a letter a few months after separating asking me to re-enlist. Laughed and tossed the letter. Went into ROTC, got commissioned, went right back to my old unit as a second lieutenant. Conditions and compensation much, much better.

When you figure in all the "woke" garbage, hard to see why someone would join the service, except for their own reasons, such as to get certain types of training. That's what I tell people now when they ask me about joining the military.

Want to get the recruits? Pay them more, cut out the bullshit, and throw all the "woke" stuff out the door. Instead of shoving the "woke" shit down people's throats, just demand people treat each other with courtesy and respect. Then you deal with the problems by exception. Sure did work for me, as a commander/leader/supervisor.

80's/90's. Unit CO had a policy that put a cap on how many E-1 through E-4 promotions it handed out with waivers.

The E-1 in question needed a waiver but since she'd been in the unit 90 days she felt she was entitled to a promotion over the white guy who didn't need a waiver.

She threw her fit until she was just given one anyway.

Why didn't you sock party her?

Would have caused more problems than it would have solved. Command would have gone apeshit, all the way to the top. Safer and better thing to do - ostracize the person, speak to them only in the course of duty.
Intellectually, I know that but still sometimes it's worth it.

you can make real money if you learned the right language from the right school.

how long do you have to enlist to become a trucker on the armies dime?

Your time in the war against the spanish is long gone.
to get good soldiers you have to end all woke crap from the government or go full roman and give out citizenship in exchange for service.

promissing to pay better doesnt work and you should know that, you were there when Macarthur crushed your bonus army.

I had other ways of making her miserable.

That's OK, she failed her PT tests, got 50 lbs overweight, and when the CO asked if there was any good reason not to chapter her (after she threw a fit and went to EO so she could her E-3 with waivers) I said no.

There was no reason to stick up for someone who caused shit in the squad.

There was an instance when someone in charge of doing PT exams were using their status to get people they didn't like kicked out. It happened three times before people started to catch on and re-tested individuals they had previously tested. Not sure what happened to that woman, hopefully, she's on deck repainting landing stripes in the rain.

If you graduated from DLI, you got some excellent language training. Received 27 semester hours college credit for a 47-week Korean language course, graduated in 1975. Korean course today at least 63 weeks long.

To learn how to drive a truck, just a standard enlistment.

The Bonus Army was in Washington during the summer of 1932 to get early payment of a bonus promised in 1945. Bonus ended up being paid in 1936. Happened long before I was born.

Paying the troops better never hurts, all other factors being equal. Was always glad to see a pay raise.

Lifted the article from the Fence-Sitting Beanie Man's podcast.

One argument someone had made is insightful; the "two moms" ad is basically a cartoon. Who the fuck is that shit aimed for? real army life is absolutely nothing like that.

The "disneyfication" of many aspects of life has become a true cancer.

I remember my father teaching me about this when I was a kid. Your leaders will ask incredible things of you, then fuck you down the line.
When the coof started taking off and everyone referred to healthcare workers as heroes, I suspected that they'd end up shitting all over them in some way similar to the Bonus Army.
