When people say this they are referring to what was the Northern front. In the south yeah it's a different story.

None of us know exactly what's going on so we just make assumptions based on what we see and read, what we think we know, what we want to see and add to that emotions.
If our assumptions are correct then we are LE mastermind genius. If not then we quietly move on and wait for another assumption that matches reality.

Do you have any information/idea why the UK is so stubborn in fighting to the last Ukrainian while everyone else is bailing out? Other than eternal Anglo, of course.

Hm, that's strange. Yesterday National Police published this video where they "clear" Boocha from russian troops, even though they left on March 30. No dead bodies on the streets, no other shit, nothing. Almost like they weren't there before and this is why they aren't stiff after few days. Nah, probably just a coincidence.

I wouldn't be terribly surprised if Germany doesn't have enough functioning ones to give out, their readiness rates have been really bad the last decade or so.

Money. All the financial support that Ukraine is now receiving from US is solely for the purpose of buying weapons. Everyone wants to get their piece of this pie, before there is nothing left.

Here is a little joke.

Other than that, not the slightest idea. The entirety of this conflict does not make sense to me, and I feel we will only learn the approximation of the truth years afrer the peace is signed and all pieces fall into place, whatever they may be. We are standing too close to the proverbial elephant, so it resembles a wall, a rope, a hose and a spear at the same time. To make things worse, it just won't... stop... trumpeting.

This. Also regardless of all the posturing Germany simply cannot mantain its industry without Russian gas at the moment. And our politicians think exactly until the next election. Having to lay off large portions of the population would be a sure-fire way to lose your precious diet.

So they will sanction half-assed and keep making moral speeches but they won't piss off Putin or cut ties completely.

Exactly. This really made me question how many of these civvies were armed prior to getting shot.

I'm not so certain they'll run out. The soviets always kept large stockpiles of stuff hidden in case of emergency. I suspect the Russians have kept up with that tradition.

Until this war kicked off, I would have agreed with you. Now, suggest large amounts of war reserve stocks have been sold/stolen. Believe the corruption is total or nearly so, at every level.

Added: Interesting opinion piece, by someone who has spent considerable time in Ukraine, working with their military.

About the UK's interest in Ukraine

I found this on a telegram:

Last summer, a memorandum was signed between the UK and Ukraine, according to which it was planned to build two bases of the Ukrainian Navy in the waters of the Black (in Ochakov) and Azov (in Berdyansk) seas. Read Britain/NATO. Johnson really wanted more control over the Black Sea."

After a short search, I indeed found news about 2 bases in Ukraine built at the expense of England.

Between the UK and Ukraine A memorandum was signed, according to which the construction of two bases of the Ukrainian Navy was planned in the waters of the Black (in Ochakov) and Azov (in Berdyansk) seas.

Here is a summary of the evidence corroborating the theory that MH17 was downed by a Russian anti-air system in the ongoing investigation. It's a bit dated so there's more unmentioned evidence by now. Russia was given chances to present evidence that Ukies did it. Russia's answer? . That and endless lying. Edit: Lots of lying.

The government of Ukraine was responsible for its own airspace. The safety of national airspace for international civilian air traffic is one of those things legitimate sovereign states are expected to take responsibility for.

In the months before the crash, at least 16 military airplanes and helicopters were shot down in the eastern part of Ukraine. Ukrainian authorities were aware of this. They stated that, occasionally, weapon systems were used that could reach the cruising altitude of civil airliners. Yet, despite of all this, Ukraine did not close its airspace.

Thirty-two different countries flew over an area where armed conflict was taking place. MH-17 was one of 160 flights that operated there.

It is now known that there were dogfights taking place over eastern Ukraine, so it appears that the conflict was greater than it appeared at the time. Based on what is completely known now, the airspace had to be closed. If other countries and airlines knew that air battles were taking place over eastern Ukraine, and that ground missiles were present which could strike at a high altitude, everyone would have taken a different route.

You guys like to say that Ukraine's failed state status is "Russian propaganda", but you can't have it both ways. Ukraine was responsible for the safety of those flights in its airspace. No one else. Airlines and other countries aren't supposed to assume they know better than Ukraine about what's going on in Ukraine. In fact, they assumed that the danger was minimal because the airspace was still open.

It could have been incompetence; greed for the fees of use of airspace; using civilian airliners as human shields for the Ukrainian military; a human sacrifice to blame on Russia, or all of the above.
