General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

So I remember a Botan clip I can't find anymore but the gist was a viewer asking if males can apply for hololive with a voice changer and she completely shot it down saying it'll never happen and holostars is there for males to apply.
But now that they've added Minase Rio in holostars who seems most likely to be a woman idk why this strange difference in rules for hololive and holostars

The point regarding voice changers still stands since Hololive is a primarily music based entertainment agency that also does livestreaming so having someone who has a voice changer is just counter productive. At least if someone is bad at singing they can still train to get better and become passable at worst to genuinely good at best.

That said im really glad for her. Really loved the live. Opening with Holostar member, which seems to be a first (correct me if I'm wrong). Would've been better for her to end with End of Life though instead of it being the penultimate one on the list.
Actual birthday/anniversary concert, yes. But Rikka and Matsuri have an entire 3D Live collab together:

Most male characters in anime are voiced by women VAs. There are countless clip of anime live voice acting by them on YouTube. I heard the requirement for female VA in Japan is that they need to have at least 4 distinct voices. Most prominent is Iguchi Yuka whose normal voice is quite deep vs her more famous Kusogaki high pitch voice.

We have massive groups of hired talents and an endless sea of indies. How long will this go on until this trend eventually becomes a fad?
For me, there are two questions relevant to the fad discussion:

1. Is streaming likely to decline?
2. Is streaming using a virtual avatar likely to decline?

The answer to the first question, IMO, is no. Livestreaming has been popular since it became practical for people to do. I think the appeal of it is very natural. I don't see it going away anytime soon.

The answer to the second question, IMO, is also no. It's been discussed here before but there does seem to be an advantage to streaming with a "body" instead of just being a disembodied voice, and using a virtual one instead of a webcam offers its own unique set of advantages. For the streamer, it offers greater privacy and means that they don't need to worry as much about looking good for the camera. For the audience, well, plenty of people like the anime art style, and drawn art styles in general have been popular for over a century.

As a result, if we define vtubing as streaming/making videos with a virtual avatar, I think it is here to stay.

What may change is what vtubing looks like - or the meta, so to speak. After all, the first vtubers were not streamers, primarily. From 2016-early 2018 pre-recorded videos with 3d models were dominant. The shift to streaming with 2d models occurred in 2018 thanks to people like Tsukino Mito becoming popular. Nijisanji talents are called "livers" because Nijisanji wanted to emphasize that they are live streamers.

Now, I personally don't think we'll see a shift away from streaming and back towards pre-recorded content, but that is an example of how what we associate with vtubing can change. 2017 vtubing looked very different from 2022 vtubing, in other words. I'm sure things will look different in some way or another by 2027.

The popularity of vtubing may also rise or fall. By late 2021 people were already talking about the Covid boom being over and how that would lead to a decline in vtuber popularity. To an extent, I'd agree that the 2020-21 vtuber fad did somewhat burst, but it seems as if that did not lead to a decline in popularity of vtubers, just a slowing in the growth of said popularity. Since then there have been things pointing towards growth returning.

My prediction is that vtubing will remain popular for some time.

its nice to see the Wigger get some great Ws recently, all we need is for the chicken to get one of equal size and the doomposting duo will finally get some decent leeway
Kiara's bread and butter has always been the convention circuit as a professional cosplayer (as Keeki.) She seems to be hopping back on that, so while it isn't a professional W, it's by far a personal one that she can get back to doing what she loves in some capacity.

Don't forget PONY CANYON favorite daughter , Uto

Uproar for some reason felt like it was a freebie to show they have not abandoned Stars , i know YAGOO love his primarchs but Cover prefer the cashcows than them, a shame because the new guys are pretty interesting

I still think Stars EN is something Cover is cooking without YAGOO

Less assraping than Castlevania 2 but definitely not easy, mad respect
YAGOO was in charge of stars before Shinove was hired. I really think he wants them to do well.

As far as Stars EN is concerned, it's gonna be just as much of a shitshow as EN gen 1 because it's not only new ground for holo but they would have the problem that Stars has as being a separate brand under the umbrella...unless they just say they're part of Hololive EN who happen to be dudes.

Im the only one who didnt care too much about the last Calli doomposting? like, it was just a couple of alfabet and sjw people sperging about what the roomate said in a song or the C-man thing, i think this thread pays way too much attention about what /vt/ or vtweeters says, thinks or feel (for not saying the forbidden words: rent free) specially with the label firm news, but maybe thats me and thats what kiwi its about, my joined date talks by itself.

I especially agree with what you said about the COVID boom being over causing the bubble to technically burst. The explosive rise was always going to end since the circumstances around it were very specific but the fact that growth only slowed down instead of actually decline shows that Vtubing has legs to stand on instead of being a passing trad that gets forgotten.

Vtubing back in 2018 I would say was the closest it was to being a fad as scripted content was already sort of declining and the Japanese Vlog style of videos were never really going to catch on outside of Japan itself. Livestreaming however is a ever growing genre and many of the old trends are adapting to livestreaming such as Let's Plays and Reaction content.
