The effects could still be felt in January 2021 as she had a higher proportion of foreign comments vs moonspeak, compared to other Hololive Japan members. She was stained by the male voice yab, the gachikoi nips never returned and others steered around her.
She was only beat by Akirose and Azki in non-jp comments. The former because of the great reddit saviorfag rally that boosted her from rock bottom.
I would be interested in an update to this chart.

I was aware this chart existed but since it has my attention again:
- IIRC there was speculation that AZKi's % was skewed by people writing "AZKi" in chat. Idk if that makes sense.
- Surprised that Anya was above Iofi, since nowadays she has scheduled Japanese streams, which I don't think Iofi does. Then again Anya had only just debuted (can't remember).
- I'm also interested in an update. Until then I shall baselessly speculate.

I'll have to catch up on the Calli stuff later. Zeta is doing a SC reading and zatsu and getting pummeled by even more SC during it. KR bros especially are hammering her, many of them red. If I remember I'll have to go back and see what her total was this stream.

edit: Still getting bulled with akasupa. All the normal shenanigans with "free" SC, her telling them to stop so they send more, etc etc. One of the akasupa senders hit max apparently so had to create a second account to send more akasupa.

edit2: The person maxed out second account, onto third account sending red SC

This baffles me more the more I think about it. Has she produced any Korean content like Bae and Kiara? Maybe it's because she's a version of Sakamata that can speak some Korean? ... I don't know how to feel about that.

Monopoly will get weird really fast, as will the cooking review with Mumei.
Cake with Matsuri, Aki and Calli sounds like an interesting group. The collab with Koyori is listed on Koyori's schedule as "English stream collab". Recently Koyori seems to want to produce regular English content, and I don't mind at all.

On Calli's big announcement, some have said that it's not that big a deal because Universal has signed other vtubers before, and because there can be significant drawbacks for these contracts.

I don't know about that, but I gather that this is something Calli/DDK has worked toward for a long time. It's a big deal for her personally I mean, and so we can still be excited for her.

Lui's been streaming nearly twice per day at times. And not shorts or similar, real over hour long streams. I'd love for her to succeed because she has nearly everything going for (a good model, voice, access to the EOPs thanks to her bilingualism) Naturally she's not gonna stand out as much next to Yamada or coomer-bait Orca but that's irrelevant.

Japanese characters (Kanji, Hiragana, Katakana) are basically pictures, therefore they are looking good on top of other picture.
This is why VTuber/Utaite/Vocaloid MV contains lyric as part of the visual and they look good.
It would be hard to pull using latin alphabet.

also, I think kanjis play big part here.
with latin alphabet + english, you often end up using more character than Japanese.
with more characters, your are also got more repetition of characters, which means repetition of shapes.
with kanji, you can use significantly fewer character to convey the same message.
with kanji, even if you have similar sounding words back-to-back, you can get totally different shapes. Fewer repetition of shapes. Less boring.
