It's a common misconception that being overweight causes sleep apnea. I run as much as Patrick used to claim and I am around his same age so a hell of a lot thinner.
I got it. It's more genetics I think than anything else.
Partly true. Pile on enough weight and sooner or later, anyone will get sleep apnea. But yes, some people are unfortunate enough to have it even at healthy weight or even underweight. There are many different contributing factors, but one most people don't know about is that the neurotransmitter serotonin isn't just used in the brain, but in the automatic nervous system as well. Serotonin is needed to maintain airway muscle tone while asleep, so low serotonin can cause sleep apnea. (This is why they usually try giving you a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor like mirtazapine in sleep medicine, because this works for some people; I would strongly recommend raising serotonin nutritionally instead though because of the notorious SSRI side effects.) There are a lot of reasons for low serotonin, but dietary nutrition is commonly overlooked. After decades of intense industrial agriculture, much of the food grown in the US is low in the vital minerals zinc and magnesium. And both of them are needed to make serotonin, along with vitamin B6 and the amino acid trytophan. Inadequate dietary niacin (vitamin B3) can cause low tryptophan, as the body can convert tryptophan to niacin but in a very inefficient way, so low niacin results in tryptophan being 'stolen' to make niacin instead. (Tryptophan is also needed to make picolinic acid, which helps absorb zinc, so low trytophan can result in low zinc as well.)
Another factor in sleep apnea is excess histamine, which can cause congestion that interferes with sleep. As an alcoholic, Pat's diet is of course rich in histamine, which is found mostly in aged and fermented foods. Like alcohol. Allergies can interfere with sleep in the same way. Allergies to things like dust, mold, and scents used in laundry detergent can cause subtle sleeping problems. I hope Pat and/or his fat wife are good housekeepers... but I doubt it.
Well, he's going to use this to try to sell pity copies of Starship Homo so he can fund the international lawsuit he desperately needs to make the atalker network collapse like a house of cards, of course
Case in point: Irvine Welsh. As opposed to Pat, his stories are typically interesting enough to overcome the distractions he deliberately introduces
I don't know if this tidbit has come over to us from litcrit, but a local Milwaukee sci fi retard did about a half hour of his podcast on Pat. Despite thinking the rascals are embarrassing themselves, having lived a life as a bullying victim, and begging Pat to come hang out with his sci fi club, this guy immediately concludes "Pat. You need to just ignore this for a couple of months until they get bored. That's how it works"
After feeding the trolls for years with the worst personality known to man, I think that even if Pat vanished off the face of the earth today, he'd still be talked about for years to come. That's what happened to fellow narcissistic lolcow Andrew Dobson, another failed "creative" type with NPD, TDS, and an absolutely abominable personality that just could not resist feeding the trolls. "Ignoring trolls doesn't work!" is a self-fulfilling prophecy.
