I can see why someone external to it, coming at it from a conservative perspective, would think that troons are an LGBT problem. But they're really specifically a lesbian problem, or really, a woman problem. Troons are a nuisance to the gay male community, but the total number of HSTS trans people has not really gone up all that much. The huge increase in trans identification is happening mostly among young girls. And it's female only spaces, straight or gay, that are being overrun. Male only spaces, the few that still exist, aren't really in a danger of being overrun. In much the same way as people talk about gay pedophilia, despite the fact that over 80% of pedophiles target young girls exclusively, I think viewing this as an Lesbian/Gay issue is an easy way of avoiding the realization that troons are just an extension of the same predatory behavior in men that has literally always been a concern to society. You have a bunch of dudes who are unmarried and have no prospects, or are married and unhappy with their relationships. They feel inadequate as men for whatever reason, many of them are on the decline, they feel as thought they aren't getting the sexual attention they deserve. A lifetime of porn and media has taught them that women get all the attention, and many of them are autistic and so unable to realize the errors in their reasoning. They start fixating on the idea that, if they were a woman, they would get the attention they deserved. Whether it's the solution to a mid-life crisis or inceldom, what's happening here is primarily a problem within males in general. There are gay men in the mix here, but it's the male sex drive, and the way that can fuck up if things don't go right, that is ultimately to blame. Especially since the lion's share of trans women identify as female attracted, which is to say they are pornsick straight men.
I also don't think you can entirely separate the tomboy -> troon pipeline that has formed from MTF's trying to justify "gender identity" as an independent concept, rather than just a male fetish. After all, if women are doing it, it's much less likely to be just a gross guy thing. We've all seen MTFs encouraging FTMs to transition, and that seems like a pretty good strategy to camouflage intent.
Organizations like the LGB alliance in the UK, which is run by gay men and lesbians, get labelled as hate groups pretty fast. The gay men I know (that admittedly, tend towards the much more masc side of the spectrum) don't really like trans people, but they keep their mouths shut because you can't be a gender critical gay dude without instantly being accused of "usurping the work of queer people of color" because Marsha P. Johnson, blah blah. It's just not worth it, especially when for the most part they can just ignore the problem, since it isn't affecting them directly. Gay men are not going to be bullied into sex by someone who looks like Elliot Page.
