Extra Credits - leftie gaming channel that had two of its members accused of "misconduct" in only 2 months

Really? Does anyone have any screenshots of that?

Seems to be asian.

Seems like more of a case their art style/artist is shit and they don't know how to draw a Jew and can't give them a giant nose or a stupid hat cause that be "offensive".
Even though that is literally real life. It'd be great if they developed some real lunatic-type thinking that drawing different skintones is racist or some bullshit and see if they unironically whitewash.

I also wanna add that stupid hats are some of the best parts of an actual diverse landscape and I would hate to see less stupid hats.

Not a half bad video on the subject but it’s plain EC is getting into politically charged territory with their videos again. Should be interesting to see if that’s so. Also, why is that Michigan health fund just bankrolling these guys?

Their gaming shit is now so niche they've got to gobble the youtube algorithm's cock and move all their gaming shit to a second channel now.

Honestly, don't know why they keep trying.
Actually, I don't know why anyone on youtube keeps trying.
Their extra credits videos range basically never break 300k views anymore with their 2.7 million sub base outside of a few exceptions, and these are (according to them) high effort videos on important gaming topics. They have done this since 2011.

Let's compare this to a objectively kinda shit channel, GrayStillPlays. They make the typical clickbait garbage gaming channel. They average far more than 200k (probably 600k is the average overall couldn't be arsed to check) have 6.16 million subscribers, and even before he leaned full on into clickbait garbage with mobile games and GTA 5 challenges, was one of those generic "alright let's fucking dick around, be a dick and exploit" channels. They started in 2016. Unsurprisingly, they never have to ask for a paetron or anything.

Meanwhile, almost all the other ""meaningful"" channels constantly have to beg for people to donate to them or watch their streams.
I sincerely believe that Youtube is a few years away from a genuinely catastrophic crash, this shit ain't sustainable.

With the constant complaints of how YouTube is horribly broken and doesn't care about its users, anyone relying on it for a living that isn't a massive success like PewDiePie or Mr. Beast is an entitled fool.

They will find out the hard way that youtube was never meant to be a job. I wonder if an employer would ever accept "former youtuber' on a resume.

As I understand it the platform has been a money pit from day one. The only reason it can even exist as it is was because of Google, who are willing to piss away millions for the level of cultural control is grants them.

They're still around after that "you're a Nazi if you play a WW2 shooter" video?

I haven't kept up with them after that whole debacle, yet after taking a one minute scroll through their videos, it's clear as day that they've practically become another Buzzfeed, Vice, or even Smosh.
They started out with humble beginnings, appealing to a niche yet dedicated audience with (arguably) original content, got more and more popular, which eventually lead to them getting bought out and corporatized. Of course by that point, the brand/channel continued to grow and expand, yet the core members who started it all jump ship. New people are desperate to appeal to young audiences by not only pushing a lot of woke content, but also creating additional channels or off-topic content to branch out. By this point their very large, yet the former identity of the channel is a complete shell of its former self without the original people behind it.

In short, their 2.7 million sub channel, originally dedicated to analyzing game design, now heavily relies on history videos being their main focus for bringing in the views. A video about games will always get under 100k views (usually between 50-100k), whereas a history video will often get 200-300k+ views. I get how some channels choose to pivot when it comes to the content they cover or the format of their videos, but having to essentially create a new channel for what the original was made for is truly a fall from grace.

Youtube's continual abuse of its creators and its ever-tightening censorship make a lot more sense when you realise it's on a financial knife-edge. Susan has been very clearly told by Alphabet that if she can't stop YouTube leaking money then it will be shut down and she will be fired. That's why YouTube is run solely for the benefit of its advertisers, and why the monetization policies are so brutal - they really, really don't want to pay their creators, so they demonetise at the drop of a hat and deny ad share to smaller channels despite peppering their videos with ads.

It's not, because they monopolize attention. My TV integrates into YouTube and I don't have cable anymore. If I want to watch one of those new cool netflix nature documentaries, I can do so for free and on my TV without having to do anything.

There will absolutely not be an open source way for content aggregation from different platforms to be streamlined the way YouTube has it. YouTube's algorithm is beholden to two things: 1) getting people watching shit continuously, no matter what, and 2) advertisers.

A lot of 'good' history channels (i.e. History Matters) have to do one of two things: Censor swastikas, or eat the loss. Some choose to replace the Swastika with the YouTube logo for the YouTube edition, and some just eat the loss and use it as an opportunity to shill their Patreon.

Sorry goy, it's not good business it's midroll RAID pest control ads during a video about the holocaust, and since the algorithm cannot 100% predict what other combination of themes may be inappropriate or offensive, it simply does not roll any ads on videos about the holocaust. If you want money, simply stop talking about the complicated political environment of interwar Europe that gave rise to Fascism in Italy and Germany. Simply ignore that, much like with the US Civil War, the Second World War was merely a political containment war which used slavery/democracy as a post hoc justification for the millions of dead people. That it has shaped the entire world and made the US the dominator of every facet of human life for everyone everywhere? It's not all that interesting, anyways. The good guys won is all you need to know.

Anyways, here's that video we'd think you'd like!

What? You don't want to see YOUTUBE SHORTS? Okay, we'll hide it... for 30 days. Idiot.

This is an extremely common thing that happens to all Youtube channels after a certain point, it's actually somewhat well documented. Essentially Youtube channels steadily grow popular but after a few years they peak in viewers and continuously go down as viewers get bored of their format. This happens a lot to video game youtubers.

There are no shortage of channels that avoid this issue entirely because they focus on making content you can't find anywhere else. Like VSauce hasn't had a video in 2 years not break above 1.6 million views. However his videos are significantly more researched and aren't disposable he does videos about topics nobody else thinks about discussing. You can also see this with Tom Scott who regularly goes above 5 million views.

The basic reality is that it's not Youtube that's causing people to not watch Extra Credits it's the fact that nobody wants to watch their shitty banal videos anymore. If you're interested in history there's no shortage of actually interesting history content on Youtube that isn't made by leftists who think that playing a Nazi in a video game = supporting the Nazi party in WW2.

There is no "crash" that is feasible for a company as large as Google and a platform as big as Youtube. For such a thing to happen Google would have to suffer a catastrophic economic collapse that would essentially require the company to start selling huge parts of itself off (like having them consider selling off Google Maps and Gmail for example). Youtube is one of the last things I would see Google ever getting rid of.

Additionally Youtube consistently makes it in the top 3 trafficked websites on Earth so people aren't avoiding the website. And every single attempt at making a Youtube competitor has failed. The idea that people aren't watching Extra Credits because they're abandoning Youtube is just wrong. People aren't watching Extra Credits because they got tired of their shitty videos.
As I understand it the platform has been a money pit from day one. The only reason it can even exist as it is was because of Google, who are willing to piss away millions for the level of cultural control is grants them.
Youtube has been a loss leader but I don't think it loses as much money as people speculate. As far as I'm aware the platform either breaks even or loses a slight amount of money. The main reason why is because hard drive costs are still really really low.

That doesn't stop Youtube from trying to find ways to make more money off the platform which they're currently doing by making ads as obnoxious as possible to encourage users to pay to not have them.

They could be forcibly broken up for a while (a la Standard Oil, AT&T or similar), like politicians have been teasing for years.
