I’ve had a PS5 since launch and have watched my SO play every Soulskiroborne game, and Elden Ring is unique in that you CAN save anywhere in the overworld (normally this is reserved only for bonfires/lanterns/dedicated resting points) and it’s one of the main things that makes this game easier than its predecessors. I can’t imagine how Kev-Kev is able to bungle it so badly when there’s a “Save and Exit” option in the game menu that literally saves your progress anywhere you are. Halfway through the Academy of Raya Lucaria? Save in a corner. Dicking around with sheep in Limgrave? Save wherever and it puts you right back there. There are even save points right outside of most boss fogs, which is blowing SO’s mind bc he’s used to fighting through nine thousand shitty enemies every time he wants to attempt a boss fight and ER just isn’t made that way.

TL;DR: git gud scrublord it’s Dark Souls on easy mode

The game saves anytime you pick up an item, anytime you finish active combat, and anytime you fast travel. Other then that I think it must also save every ten seconds or so from my personal experience. Manually exiting the game also saves, so kevin is either completely retarded or his ax wound is full of shit. I think he’s just full of shit personally, and needs a reason to be autistic on twatter.

Considering he thought rest mode was the same as turning off the console, he’s probably just hitting the home screen button instead of actually exiting the game or something.

I think it was a combination of putting the console in rest mode and then their shitty power situation. Kevin was complaining that it would show him the “please properly turn off the power” screen which only happens when the ps4 is in rest mode and then gets unplugged or the power gets cut. His tweets sperging about the game not saving seemed kinda weird. It’s like he’s setting himself up to say “elden ring sucks, I tried to play and I was really good, but the game just kept deleting my saves and it was so frustrating so I couldn’t finish/the game wasn’t good/fuck fromsoft” when in reality he’s just lazy and the game is too hard for him.

The PS4 isn't as big a piece of shit as Kevin's making it out to be. It'll auto save if the game has it just like the Switch, etc, with little issue.
But, like any console reliant on electricity, you're shit out of luck if the power blips before you get to the save/auto save point.

-If anything he's probably not taking the time to save often, like these sorts of brutal games train you to get into the habit of.

I'm playing on PS4 and haven't had a single issue saving. It auto saves constantly and the few times it scolded me for closing the game without doing the "save & quit" option in the menu - saying I could lose progress for doing that - I didn't even lose anything because the game saves every 30 seconds. Kevin is either lying, that much of an incompetent retard, or both.

For example the wireless controller my wife used on souls+ other games with little problem has a lag post input on Elder to the point that it flatout ignores some dodge/jump/swing commands. I've used that controller for similar games and it's definitely the PC game.

- At least with that sort of issue alone he would have a valid built in excuse for automatically sucking eggs at this game.

my old ps4 lost OS data eventually and wouldn't boot up and my friend had to wipe his hdd back to factory settings to fix a similar issue

Ok this would make sense if the ps4 is slowly bricking - All the more likely with the unstable power supply. I’m in a temp situation with unstable internet that force kicks me to the title screen once every hour or so of playing. Despite the disruption, I always reliably pop back in somewhere right before I engaged in combat, no progress lost except maybe a few swings on a boss. (I could remedy this by playing offline but I adore the blood stains and notes)

I think there's some terminology confusion happening.

PSN = Playstation Network. Where you buy all you dlc and other games and whatnot. PSN account is basically just your "gamer tag" that tracks purchases and trophies. No need to pay for PSN access.

PS+ = Paid sub for online access. This is the equivalent of Xbox Live, I guess.

Autosave = This (supposedly?) is in the game regardless of if you have PS+ or not. Provided the game has it built in to begin with.

Cloud saves = This is what you need a paid account for. Without PS+, you can't cloud save. Cloud saves are apparently more stable and less prone to corruption (allegedly) so a power cut probably won't disrupt them as opposed to a local save, which Kevin is using.

If I had to guess, Kevin's shitty power situation is the culprit. His save files are probably corrupted. But even still, the Elden Ring community seems divided on if autosave (not cloud saves) actually exists or not. Some people say it does, others say it doesn't. I would find it extremely bizarre to lock autosave functionality behind a paywall when cloud saves are already behind a paywall.

I've seen way too many software bugs to completely dismiss the notion that something's gone wrong with his game, but I would bet the problem is between the chair and keyboard.
