Why do the announcers say "rookie/veteran/champion IN <name>" in BattleBots?

It makes 0 sense and I can't figure out why they keep saying the word "in" between the rank and name of the robots when the announcers are talking about them

Do they say this in regular sports?
I tried Google but it's too hard to word the question right

Maybe it's to denote they are skilled at a specific level (champion, rookie, ETC) when using that specific robot (I have no idea what these are called). So a guy can be a champion when using the Sneed 9000 but is only a rookie when using the YWNBAW-02A.
